A Mt. Charleston Trip Report

Hey everyone. Today we decided to take advantage of the amazing weather here in Vegas and venture a little north. So off we went to Mt. Charleston, which is about a 30 minute drive from our house.

My fiancé Honor_Bound joined me in my adventure.



First stop was the Spring Mountain Visitor Center for the last potty stop on the trip until we got home.







Next Stop Mary Jane Falls Trail Head.











We didn’t get very far though as my asthma started to act up and I didn’t have my inhaler with me. I know stupid. You don’t have to tell me. So we hit the road again. Only this time we were headed to the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort and Upper Bristlecone Trail Head. We decided to have lunch here. A couple of sandwiches, water, and Honey BBQ Fritos. Yummy.









After lunch we decided to head over to the Upper Bristlecone trail.





Along the way we found some trees that gave way during the winter.



We also saw the ski and resort area that wasn’t open as the season. Since it wasn’t open we decided not to head that way.



We made our way along the trail until we lost it, mainly because there was so much snow. So we decided to just have fun in the snow and walk as far back into the wilderness as we could.











I then decided to attempt a snow man. Did I mention it was poor attempt at a snow man.



As we were walking back we found some snow boarders.





After watching them for a while we decided to have a little snow ball fight.

After our little snow ball fight we decided to relax a little.











After our little rest we started heading back and kinda lost the trail. Oh well. While we were headed in a direction somewhere near the car we realized that there were no longer any human foot prints on the trail. Instead we found animal prints.








While we were following the prints I fell through the snow and left this giant crater.



We soon realized we were on some kind of actual path since the trees parted so nicely.





Soon we realized we were actually on the ski and snowboard slopes. Whoops! Good thing it wasn’t ski and snowboard season.











Once we found our way out of the Ski and Snowboard resort we had to head back to our car.

On the way home Honor_Bound passed out.

mandy I loved the pictures, showed wayne, he said Ok we have GOT to go there.. we only went up to the viliage part.. SO i think on next family day we are going there

haha! Looks like you had a great time. Wonder what those animal prints were? Looked canine....maybe a wolf? Do you have wolves in Vegas? I mean...beside the two legged type that visit strip clubs?

To be honest I have no idea what kind of wildlife there is out there. Mt. Charleston is completely different than Las Vegas as you can see and is only about 20 minutes away. lol.

Thanks we did have a really great time. I am ready to go back tomorrow for some more fun. But sadly today was the last day of the weekend for us. Oh well. Anyways, I will let Honor_Bound know you love his jacket. I will also make sure he doesn't bring it to the gumball rally so you can't steal it. lol.

Very nice report, I did not know there was pretty mountains in or near vegas, all I ever heard or seen were reports from others on red rock canyon, and that place is ugly ! good to know there is pretty places like this.

Red Rock is much prettier up close. But if I had to choose between Red Rock or Mt. Charleston I would ALWAYS choose Mt. Charleston. I just love it up there and its sooo close.

red rock is pretty up close, we go there alot

When you said you were going hiking I wasn't expecting snow...near LV! Very nice!

Oh yeah there is still tons of snow up on Mt. Charleston. The skiing season has already ended but there is still a lot of snow.
