Talking Renaissance Pleasure Faire -- 2009 season

I'm not normally one to do a trip report -- let alone one for a month-and-a-half full of memories.

However, while working on our latest video podcast, time slipped away to do updates over the run of faire.

So, here we are.

Sit back, relax, grab an ale, and let's take a look at my family's adventures in the 1580s (or a reasonable facsimile thereof).

And because this was our little baby's first set of big outtings, expect plenty of adorableness.

WEEKEND 2, PART 1 - April 11, 2009

Like this, for example. Yep, we all go in costume.
Even the 4-5 month old one.

Two seconds into his first faire, and my boy's already thirsty.

His momma, in a rare "normal" photo. You'll see what I mean later on.

So, on this first visit, little Wyatt saw all sorts of new things.
Like little and big horseys.

Bellydancers with snakes and their attendant musicians.

A pair of fairies who danced and "flew" in their own way.

I don't know about you guys, but I find it creepy when people are able to
defy the laws of gravity like this.

A group of Italian ladies entertained Wyatt with a dance.

And then, he found out what birds were.

It was an awful lot for such a little baby to see! Soon, it was nap time.

But that didn't last long. There was so much to see!
Including a group of ladies whom, well, perform certain acts on gentlemen for a fee.

Yep, I'm a proud daddy corrupting my boy.

Then, it was off on another tour of the faire site to see some of the locals.
Like the washer women.

And the nobles at court (who had a lot of kids of their own)

Alas, it was soon time to leave -- as our wee little one didn't have the endurance to last a full day.

But Wyatt seemed to enjoy his visit.

Of course, his mommy and I would be visiting the next day by ourselves.
(Ah, the benefit of nearby grandparents).
And I had a little surprise up my sleeve for Julie...

But that has to wait for Part 2.

WEEKEND 2, PART 2 - April 12, 2009

Sunday, Julie and I headed back to the fairegrounds for more filming and fun.
It's a real shame Julie spent all the time to get all prettied up, since this *wasn't* going to be how she looked for the majority of the day.

Working with the faire's PR staff, we organized for Julie to "play" at that
house of ill-repute Wyatt visited the day before. So, into some brightly
colored clothing and striking makeup she went. And came out like this...

Yep, she makes this look good.

Obligatory artistic lipstick on goblet shot.

Oh yeah, there was this geeky guy there too.
Since yes, occasionally I do end up in photos.
Although, beside Julie, I tend to fade into the background.

I didn't even have to pay for this...

So, I left Julie with the gals and guys at The Bell
(for that is what the place is called)

... and ventured around the rest of the site. Since, you know, I had
a video to work on. Once footage was collected, I met Julie (back in
her normal outfit) at the Maypole.

Now Julie insisted that the girl at the Bell wasn't her, and insisted that it must be her
evil twin! And since she saw my face marked with lipstick, I got thrown in the stocks.

Or maybe it was because I said that performing at faire messed with her head.
It certainly looks like it to me...

But it was all good fun. So much, that Julie planned another visit to her friends at
The Bell for the fourth weekend. Which is where we'll pick up our story and
photo report... next update!

Aw, thank you very much! We think he's quite the cutie ourselves (as do about 90% of the women at faire. I think everyone wanted to hold him. Good thing that group is like "family" to us. :-)

Oh yes -- there's a great many Haunt folks creeping around Faire. When we were recording our podcast, that's the second thing that tended to pop up in conversation -- either a Haunt or Disneyland employment sometime in the past.

I still don't know why, when someone is filming to capture the characters of faire, it prompted people to actually DROP character and start chatting as if old friends -- but hey, it was interesting. :-)

Lots more photos coming up on Thursday or Friday. (Sorta have Wyatt's, or "Rat's" first visit to Disneyland to handle first!)

Re: Renaissance Pleasure Faire -- 2009 season

Thank goodness for the MiceChat RoundUp, or I probably would have missed this TR completely!

Thanks Disneyphenom for this wonderfully fun trip report to Renaissance Faire!!! I previously thought that little Rat was quite adorable. Well, he's off the charts adorable in his faire garb. And OMG, how awesome was it for Horse_Bunny to get to "work" at The Bell!

And your photos of all the characters, including yourselves, are wonderfully captured. I can't wait to see the rest. Oh, and I'll have to download your podcast too! Hooray!!!

"Disneyphenom" I'll search through my extra images from The Bell on the 12th, I think I may have some of you and your lovely wife and maybe some more from 4th weekend; beside the one I have posted on my web site (see below). I'm an Entertain Photographer for the Faire.

terrific! We missed the Faire this year, but will be back next year if not to one of the 'others' before then. Don't little boys just look adorable in their costumes? Dad and Mom looked pretty good too. Thanks for sharing!
