I am in my 50's and the Son of Beast was probably one of the most exciting roller coaster rides ever. Yeah it's noisy, rough, and bangs you around some. But thats what makes a wooden roller coaster ride so exciting.
So I am asking all you people out there that were saying the ride was too rough for them to do one thing. Could you please take your thumb out of your mouth and say WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!?
Totally disagree.

What makes a wooden coaster ride exciting is the ability to ride it, have fun and not feel like you have to go to the chiropractor the next day.

Yes, Wood Coasters are going to have some give, but that doesn't mean they have to be "rough". I've never gotten that rationale. Some of the best wooden coasters I've ridden are not not rough at all.

'Son Of Beast' To Remain Closed, Possibly For Good

Inspectors Declare Ride Safe, But Park Officials Unsatisfied

Quote:

MASON, Ohio -- State inspectors have cleared a Kings Island roller coaster for reopening, but park officials said the ride would remain closed through the end of the season – if not longer.Son of Beast was shut down in June after a woman suffered a burst blood vessel in her head, and she claimed she was injured after riding the wooden roller coaster.Jill Tavella did not report the injury until June 16, more than two weeks after riding the coaster, but she did not report the injury earlier because she said her husband was out of town and she was taking care of her three children.

Inspectors from the Ohio Department of Agriculture said they found no irregularities and declared the coaster safe. But park officials said they were not satisfied with the ride experience and would decide what to do with the Son of Beast ride during the offseason.Park officials did not specify which options they would consider for the ride, which featured a vertical loop when it opened in 2000.The loop was removed six years later after 27 people were injured during a ride.

I still don't believe that lady. I'm sorry but waiting 2 weeks to report her "injury" just because hubster was out of town and she had to watch the kids by herself? I still call shenanigans. She probably waited until he got home and they concocted some story up together.

Totally agree with you there Clink, myself I feel people have a warped rationale that a wooden coaster has to be rough. The way I see it, 1. We have a lot of Masocists if wooden coasters need to be rough...and 2. For me, a wooden coaster trait that is usually common in good wooden coasters is aggressiveness.

The best wooden coasters I've been on are pretty aggressive, they haul around the track, hit you with airtime and gives a great "out of control" feeling...but don't beat you up in the proccess.

To me, Son of Beast is a really pointless coaster and a big waste of wood. When it opened with the loop it was really gimmicky, the loop was the only special thing for the ride. I rode it once, my legs were smashed up and that's all I needed to know I would not be re-riding this coaster.

For me, if a coaster it beating you up...chances are it's beating itself up, and looked what happen to S.O.B, it broke! Once the loop was removed, the park was left with a really big coaster with a non-exciting layout...which gives you nothing in return but a rough ride.

The park should just tear the ride down and put something worthwhile in it's place, one Beast is good enough. (Though I will be brutally honest, The Beast is way past it's prime as well.)

Re: Son Of Beast at King's Island closed for now

I think they should tear it down along with Top Gun Flight Deck and make one big coaster. Top Gun Flight Deck just isn't worth waiting in line for or waking all that way just to get there.

And another thing, I was at the park yesterday getting some food and drink and the ladies in front of me asked for a straw for their drinks and the employees said that the park has outlawed straws. ????? True when I went to other places I didn't see any and also true that I haven't eaten there (other than maybe a shaved ice, the only thing worth the price) in about 2 years.

But can the park outlaw straws????
