Six Flags from Anaheim ( which tour company? )

Will be in Anaheim for seven days from the 1st of Feb, I know that Magic Mountain will be opening weekends only. The only time I will have to go is Saturday 6th Feb 2010.

Has anyone used any of the day tour companies and if so, which would be your choice?

Since this will be my first time to MM, I was planning on paying extra to get the Gold Flash Pass.

Crowds should not be too bad at that time of year yes?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Six Flags from Anaheim ( which tour company? )

Crowds should not be too bad at Six Flags Magic Mountain on that day. Most likely, the hours of operation will be from 10:30 am to 8 pm.

I'd even go so far as to recommend just the regular Flash Pass. I haven't tried Gold but have used regular and it seems to me that Gold, because it cuts down up to 75% on wait times, seems to work too well.

What I mean by that is that as soon as the ride attendant scans your Flash Pass on a particular attraction, you're able to set your reservation for the next ride as you wait to board a train/car. That in and of itself gives you a tremendous advantage over Disney fastpasses as you don't have to physically walk to the ride and get a fast pass ticket. Now being that the rides at SFMM are all relatively far apart, especially compared to Disneyland, your boarding time for the next ride will most likely come up way, way before you're able to get off the current ride and walk over to the next one. Also, boarding can be a slow process at SFMM as restraints on each and every rider tend to get checked more thoroughly.

Since I'm a local, I've never tried any of the tour bus companies. I'm sure their prices can be quite high and you'd have to leave the park on their schedule.

As an alternative though it'll take longer, you could also take an Amtrak or Metrolink train from Anaheim to Los Angeles Union Station and then transfer to a Redline subway that will take you to North Hollywood. From there you could take an express bus that will take to you near SFMM and then transfer to the bus that takes you right in front of the park. It will definitely take longer like I said but if you're interested I can try to pull up all the info to see how long it make take. The cost for the round trip will be a bit under $40 with the bulk of that being the $15 Amtrak ticket.

I'm pretty sure there is a Metrolink station not too far from SFMM and you could take a Santa Clarita bus to the park.

As for the Flash Pass, that time of year will not be busy at all. You probably won't need it. However, you may have some rides closed down for refurb at that time.

Re: Six Flags from Anaheim ( which tour company? )

Let me just start by saying you guys are wonderful, you have made me feel welcome from the moment I started posting and most likely with question that have been asked a million times before.

Brand 42

I would rather not be tired to a tour bus, so if you would not mind getting that Info it would be more than welcome. The travel time is not a worry, since I spent five hours on two trains and a bus to see the Snow Monkey's outside of Tokyo earlier this year. ( after getting up at 2.00am )

The only reason I thought about the flash pass, was I wanted to cram as many rides in as possible, since I will only have one the day there.

Once again, you guys wonderful.

Our pleasure, cns and welcome to MiceChat!!!

Well, fortunately, you won't have to travel 5 hours nor will you need to get up at 2 am. Ideally, if you were to take the Metrolink train from Anaheim at 7:31 am, you should be able to be at Six Flags at a little past 10 am and be able to wait for the gates to open.

If you want, I can be more specific as to what trains and buses you would take but I just wanted to give you an approximate travel time.

Being the crazy person that I am, I usually keep a record of how many rides I was able to go on whenever visiting theme parks and I'm glad to say that this year on Feb. 7, I visited SFMM for about 4 hours (I'm a passholder there) and got 8 rides in, including 5 in a row with very minimal wait on Tatsu and 2 rides on X2. Crowds weren't a problem at all that day. X2's line can get to around 2 hours or more during the summer and Tatsu's can often get to 90 minutes or more.

It actually rained on that day, though not severe enough to close down any rides. The slight rain did hurt as I was riding Tatsu and that's why I ended the string of 5 straight rides. However, if it rains enough, they will close down certain attractions, so hopefully you'll get great weather during your visit.

It's too bad you weren't going to be out in march and take advantage of the annual West Coast Bash. Getting all the rides you could EVER wish for on that day is nothing.

Re: Six Flags from Anaheim ( which tour company? )

Last train out of Santa Clarita on a Saturday is 7:23PM. Leave park by 7.
Could get to Newhall by 7:30PM. Seems 6 on one hand, in terms of distance and direction of train.

$16.25 round trip on weekend, as of today.

There is a bus route 501 of the Santa Clarita Transit from Santa Clarita station to Magic Mountain (the employee's entrance). I cannot get their pdf to open, though.

I would have loved to be able to go for West Coast Bash, but not to be.
( The vendor ticket I have for travel allows to me to go only in Jan/Feb, so will be flying out of Australia via Tokyo into New York for 3 days, before seven days in LA. )

I think I will travel up by train/bus/taxi, than I can arrive when gates open and leave later in the day when I am ready.

Actually, thanks to the new Santa Clarita 757 express line to North Hollywood, cns and others can stay at SFMM until 8 pm, board the Santa Clarita #7 to McBean Transit Center and transfer to the 757 which will take them to North Hollywood Station. Then they can take Metro Red Line to Union Station and then take the 10:10 Amtrak Surfliner back to Anaheim.

So if I take the train from Anaheim station into LA, change over to the metro line and help up to Santa Clara and jump on a bus. that should work yes.

Hi fellow Cairns-ite!

Every one has given you some great information on how to get to Six Flags by train, bus etc. I wish I had that information in 2007 when I took my family there for the day. We went with a tour company from L.A who advertised you would have 10 hours at the park. All passengers on the day were very suprised when we were given a 6pm time to be back on the bus even though the park was open until 10pm that night.
Some passengers complained but were told to be on the bus by 6pm or make your own way home.
I wish I had the public transport information as we would have made our own way there and back and enjoyed the extra time.
Anyway enjoy your trip and have a great time on the awsome coasters of Six Flags

Hey Cairns Girl,

Nice to see a fellow Far Northern on here, really looking forward to the trip, sending the weekend before the Disney part in New York.

The wonderful gang from here and also Six Flags have given me a step by step guide to doing Public Transport. So now able to spend the whole day there. ( Happy Dancing!! )
