Karla, are you and Rachal roller coaster buffs? If not, go for Universal.

I haven't been to either place for a while, but I think Universal is about 45 minutes or so north of Disneyland, Six Flags is about 2 hours north. All depending on traffic.

I like Six Flags better. It just depends what you want to do. Six Flags is pretty much all crazy roller coasters, and Universal is shows, a few rides, and the backlot tour.

Karla my dear, I know you're a wild woman, but if you only like the small coasters, Six Flags is not for you. Their coasters are INSANE!!!! Mind you, I like them, but you've got to be a real thrill ride junkie to enjoy a day at that park.

Universal is great! Plus if you get tired of the park, CityWalk is right next door: shopping, great resturants, and the Hard Rock Cafe!

UnIvErSaL rOcKs! atleast you can ride all the rides in one day instead of riding about a quarter of the rides that Six Flags has.

Re: whats better six flags or Universal ?

Are you just referring to Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal Studios Hollywood???

If so, here is how I break it down:

Magic Mountain: Unless you like XTREME Coasters, and ALOT of them this is not the place for you. They have some good coasters (Deja Vu, Goliath, Riddlers, Batman, Ninja, Superman), some okay coasters (Scream, Colossus, Gold Rusher) and some coasters that will make you scream in pain (Psyclone, X, Viper, Revolution). Other than that there is really nothing but some old carnival type flat rides.

Universal Studios Hollywood: You really can ride the movies. If you have never done the tram tour it's truly a unique experience. You really do get to see behind the scenes of a working movie studio and you may just catch them filming. (More likely during the week than on weekends). The shows range from GREAT (Waterworld) to okay (Animal Planet) to awful (Blues Brothers). They have some good movie attractions in Shrek 4D and T3, a good simulator ride (Back to the Future) an AWESOME boat ride (Jurassic Park) and an okay coaster (Mummy).

Overall both parks are worth a visit, but if you only have the chance to do one and you are not hip on HUGE coasters I say go to Universal. You can EASILY do that park in 6 hours.

Re: whats better six flags or Universal ?

Yes, but at least Six Flags Magic Mountain has enough different attractions to fill a day.

I agree with A_Hyperbole though, if your into super thrilling "OMG" coaster, SFMM is the place. If you like more of the laid back (but still exciting) rides and a lot of shows, then uni is good.

I would say Universal would be more suited to your liking based on other topics you started. Between Jurassic Park and Revenge of the Mummy (this one does go backward, but it's still not much more intense then Big thunder at DL, just in the dark) You got your thrills covered.

The good thing about Jurassic Park is during the winter they turn the Splash down by turning up the magnetic brakes after the final drop, so as long as you don't sit in the front, you'll get a few splashes, but nothing too bad. Not sure about April though...

6 Flags Magic Mountain is known for its gang problems and only has a tiny bit of gentle rides. It is pretty much a big rollercoaster park. Plus you have to walk up some steep inclines or just take the tram up the inclines.

So if you are not a fan of gangs, big coasters, or walking steep inclines, I do not think this place is for you.

Funny story I have. When I went to Magic Mountain years back they had two soda vending machines.

one sold soda for $1 and the machine right next to it sold the same soda for $2.50. Guess what machine was not working? Yup the $1 machine was not working

Also that same day me and a fried were queueing for the Log Ride. in front of us was a mexican and girlfriend and infront of them was a group of black males and females. Well mexican guy got ticked when he saw a black guy cut in line to join the group of blacks. They began yelling at each other and eventually got into a fight right in front of us! I mean we were right behind the mexican guy and had no where to back up to. Any way fists were swung, but the mexican guy eventually pulled out a few locks of one of the black ladies braided hair. Then they finally got up to the logs and were escorted away by security.

Re: whats better six flags or Universal ?

Personally, I would just spend an extra day at Knotts or Disneyland. If you have the means to get to Seaworld. That would be my choice over six flags or universal. Six flags is all about the coaster, and it doesn't sound like Rachel is quite ready for that intense level of ride. I like Universal, but it's quite a trek from the Anaheim area and Sea World is much more "kid friendly.

My 2cents.

Re: whats better six flags or Universal ?

I say stay close to DL or go to Universal. The last time I went to Six Flags it took us over an hour just to get through security. It was so crowded we got to ride 5, count them 5 rides. To add injury to insult, Viper jacked my neck up good and I had to go to the chiropracter.

Karla, it sounds like you and Rachel are going to have a terrific time.
Is it a "girls only" trip, this time around?
