 |  Universal Japan to open "Land of Oz" Universal Studios Japan, as part of their 5th anniversary celebration, will officially unveiled their newest addition to the park this summer 2006, "Land of Oz". Based on the popular tale of Dorothy and her friends in Oz while trying to find her way back to Kansas. To quote Universal's press release... >>>The Yellow Brick Road leads to Emerald City, where guests will discover an amazing fantasy world. A "Witches" musical production, an animal show featuring the residents of Oz, a rollicking band.... A restaurant and shop as well are created with a magical touch you won't encounter anywhere else. Visit the amazing fantasy world of the "Land of Oz", opening summer 2006.<<< For those who may be interested, the new area is being built in the former "Old West" section of USJ, which is bittersweet for me since USJ's Old West is my favorite part of USJ. Oh well... time for change I guess...

| Re: Universal Japan to open "Land of Oz" USJ's Old West area is comparable in size to Toontown at DL. I personally am sad to see this area being changed permanently as I liked the attention to details and feel of it. But Oz should be fun as well... so we'll see how it turns out.

| Re: Universal Japan to open "Land of Oz" This sounds quite crappy given the potential. Does anyone remember the Oz theme park that was to open in Kansas City a while back? They went bankrupt, but not till the now-defunct site was online and it looked KICK@**. Shame it will never be made. |

| Re: Universal Japan to open "Land of Oz" Well folks.. it's official: Universal Studios Japan will open their new park area, Land of Oz, on July 12th, 2006. Just 2 days before TDS's official 5th anniversary celebration begins. I was at USJ a few days ago (without my camera) and checked out the progress of the Land of Oz. While the construction wall is still up.. holes in the wall allow for a great view of the Munchkinland facades, Emerald City and other features in the area. The construction workers were putting on some ornamental touches on the newly erected Land of Oz archway. The transformation of the former Old West area to Oz is amazing. Also, the park has been selling a special bag with a Land of Oz motif on one side and the "Wicked" Musical ad on the sides. Apparently a special version of the musical "Wicked" will be presented in this area as well, along with a brand new "Toto and Friends" animal stage show, feat. Dorothy. I shall return to USJ sometime before the end of summer and shall bring a report in late August I hope. In the meantime... read all about it here: http://www.usj.co.jp/oz/e_inde x.html
