Trying to track down a "Mystery Theme Park"

i'm sure it is in So Cal , i went there when i was maybe 12 or 13 so around 1989 or 1990 , and all i remember is an Autopia style ride , but there was no gas pedal , they just went by themselves , and through a tunnel... i know it's quite a vauge description , but my brother an i have been trying to figure this out for a while now , any help would be radness

The soap box derby was like that at Knotts' - you actually raced another car on a little coaster type track. Used to be one of my favorites.

Re: Trying to track down a "Mystery Theme Park"

^ It could be Soap Box Racers, but they aren't really like Autopia cars.

GrimmGreen, do you know approximately which area the park was in?

Could it have been at Scandia? http://www.scandiafun.com/indexONT.htm

Could use a few more specifics here... was this ride part of a theme park? Or was it by itself? Can you describe other rides near it, to give a better sense of location?

At Castle Park in Riverside, there is a car ride that is somewhat similar to what you describe. They appear somewhat like Model T Fords. It was better known as the Tijuana Taxis at Knott's, and then it was moved to Castle Park, where they still operate today. Just went on them about three weeks ago!

Castle Park ... Home of the old-school Knott's.
