USH Studio Tour Question

Hi! I'm new here and have a question about USH. We are going next week and taking my kid sisters. One of them is scared to death of monkeys, especially King Kong (she's quirky). We are going to take her on the tram tour anyway, but I was wondering if anyone can give me details about the King Kong part of this ride.

For example, I read somewhere that Kong is only on the right side of the tram - is this correct? If so, how hard will it be for us to make sure we sit as far on the left as possible?

Also, does anyone know what attraction comes before the King Kong part (just so I can warn her when it's getting close)?

And finally, how long does the King Kong portion of the ride last?

Thanks

Re: USH Studio Tour Question

King Kong generally occurs when you're driving through the New York street sets. The tram route varies, but when they say they can sneak you onto a set with a very big Hollywood star, that's when he's coming. The actual Kong encounter occurs in two parts - first you stop by a wrecked El-train and watch a video on the tv screens, then you drive around a curve where you get up close and personal as he rocks the bridge back and forth.

For this part, the tram makes two stops, so he can terrorize the first two trains, and then the next two trains. Yes, he's only on the right side, but he's huge enough to make a presence all over the tram. If you want to minimize the experience with the ape, then I'd say, sit in the fourth car on the left side near the very back. You're more likely to only have close contact with Kong as the tram drives off. The first and third cars are directly in line of Kong during the stops.

I'm not sure how long the encounter lasts, though.

Re: USH Studio Tour Question

The king kong is really big (as stated above) so I think maybe your only option would be to have her close her eyes. He does growl a lot so she will still hear him, but there really is nowhere on the tram where he can't be seen. Is she old enough that she can just bury her head down so she doesn't have to see him at all?

Re: USH Studio Tour Question

FYI, if she is afraid of Monkeys, she should avoid the Universal's Animal Actors show, since a few monkeys are used in the show.

She can close her eyes, but she'll still smell his banana breath!!!

Good advice above.

Best of luck!

Re: USH Studio Tour Question

Thanks for all the info! I think we are going to try and get her on it. It seems silly to go to USH and not ride the tram. So far every time we've taken my sisters on trips, I've managed to traumatize the youngest (she's 13), so I may as well stick with that track record!!!

(I'm just kidding - I don't try to scare her on purpose - it just happens that she is scared of many things and we always end up facing one of her fears!)

Actually, the placement of Kong on the tour will probably be after the trip through Six Points Texas. All of New York Street is closed to trams due to filming of the Transformers movie. But I could be wrong...

We have a walk through haunted house on Halloween. Making a 13 year old girl scream is nothing to be ashamed of.

Cheers.
