(fake) Beijing China Disneyland

I was on my 3 week China/Japan vacation and our first stop was Beijing, China. On our way to The Great Wall of China, we passed by this copy cat version of what I think it closest to Tokyo Disneyland. This "Disney" park has nothing to do with the actual company. The parking lot was quite narrow between the park and freeway, but I think there was more parking on the other side of the freeway with a bridge over the freeway and to the park. Our tour guide said it was being built in 1991 but stopped because of no money and bad economy. So it's just been sitting there. There's a perimeter wall themed as the castle (pink walls and blue rooftops) that can clearly be seen from the parking lot and freeway. Their main street's glass canopy was completed. And their Cinderella style castle was barebones with concrete and steel exposed to the elements. I took a video of the park as we passed by, I'll try to get it on youtube. There's a chance it might get completed because the olympics are coming to Beijing in 2008.

Has anyone heard of this Disneyland copy-cat?? Isn't there a thing called international copyrights?

PS, in Xian, China at the Terra Cotta Warriors, they have a theater that plays a movie about how the Terra Cotta warriors came to be from start to present. It was actually a Circle Vision movie!! It needed new films and lots of maintenance, but it was Circle Vision theater with no seats and with 9 screens. Brought Disneyland nostagia to me

Well, foreign parks modeled after Disneyland isn't really a new thing. Take a look at the infamous Nara Dreamland in Japan sometime. ThemeParkReview.com has a video of it up.

I wonder how that can possibly stay in business.... or is it actually closed and we're just lead to believe it's opened?

Nara Dreamland is supposedly closing at the end of the summer season.

Lol thanks. I was actually interested in the photos of the one he was talking about in Beijing.

I love that map though. Lol thier stairway to no-where looks great. But then they have that one wooden coaster which is supposed to be great too. Go figure.

Can Disney sue this place.

They used lands like Adventureland, etc.

Re: (fake) Beijing China Disneyland

If you look at Disney's maps, it shows what "names" are trademarked or copyrited. Alot of the old ones were too generic to copyrite (Adventureland & such) which is part of the reason new rides get uberly long names (Expedition: Everest - The Legend of the Forbidden Mountain) so they have an easier time trademarking them.
