Fishbulb's Orange County Fair Trip report - 07/23/06

Well Dusty and I were decided to go for a change of pace today and headed for the Orange County Fair. Dustysage was very excited for this excursion but I, however, don't like fairs too much. Carnivals, fairs, and the circus are all the same to me, but it was something different. Besides, who doesn't like a cheesy dark ride or fun house.

From the parking lot the fair looks very much like DCA

We paid for regular parking and then made our way in the hot sun to the entrance.

Admission was only $8.00. We went in and were greeted by beautiful sculptures decorated with flowers.

We decided to start off with the Agriculture stuff and went into the "Millenium Barn" where I met a goat who was very friendly.

Out back were the gardens...

and more animals...

When I went to take pics if these little chicks they all fought to be in a picture. It was too funny.

First I was taking pictures of lil' blondie.

Then from the left...

...his friend, pokey, stole my attention.

Yes, it is a pumpkin.

I just had to have a shot of this.

We walked towards the crafts area and passed a group of singers who were entertaining the crowds.

The sun began to get to us and we looked for something indoors to do for a bit. AAAAAAAAHHHHH the "new product" exhibits. Great!

Where's HakunaMakarla?

From a computer rented from the set of the original Star Trek Ol' Mildred will analyze your personality.

After that respite in the AC we headed over to peak at the Chinese acrobats.

Then traveling along the skyway route, we headed for the rides area.

More and More like DCA.

Niether of us had any intention of riding ANYTHING that spun. I was dying to ride at least one Dark ride and Dusty chose to ride the BIG FERRIS WHEEL.

America's largest Transportable Ferris wheel.

I boarded the "Creep Show" ride and was not disapointed. It was total crap! I love cheesy dark rides. They are so wonderfully bad and unscary that they are spectacular. Thematically they make hardly any sense, the scares generally involve loud noises, bursts of air, or animatronics that don't function properly. It was great!

Well, as Dusty and I surveyed the rest of the midway, I realized how much this temporary fair was like DCA. Scary.

Anywho, we were beat. The sun had finally killed our spirit and we no longer wanted to trudge around. Before we left, however, we stopped by the Dippin' Dots stand and got some Ice Cream of the future.

Overall the fair was nice but there was NO SHADE! The animals were neat and very cute. But this fair did nothing to win me over to liking being in the hot sun with other stinky people while loud music blasts from speakers everywhere with nothing to eat but fried anything and nothing to ride but dangerous spinning contraptions. Oh well, it was fun though.

Actually, it looked pretty nice for a county fair. Ours barely has trees as well--what is funny is the distractions are the same=cheesy rides and bizarre shows.

Thanks Fishy and Dusty.

Peace,
Roo

Re: Fishbulb's Orange County Fair Trip report - 07/23/06

that's much nicer than any fair I've ever been to, still I have no patience with fairs. I don't like spinning rides, I don't like spending 20 dollars on midway games that cheat, and I don't like all the fat rednecks who come out to ours in droves. It's like an "I don't have any teeth" convention at the fairs in Florida I've been to.

This line made me laugh.

The last fair I went to proved to me that the food had past me by. One cart was selling fried oreos, fried twix, and fried 3 musketeers bars.

Oh and here are a couple of images that I didn't get to post originally with a bit of commentary.

The belly dancers were more belly than dance. OOOOOFF!

An inside exhibit with a miniature landscape and lake with a boat. Cute

My grandmother popped into my head after I saw this. Don't know why.

So my question is this: Avacados are new?

It did look like nice fairgrounds - ours is mainly dirt paths - but, we do have some trees. I love the exhibit booths!!! But we mainly go for the out of date music acts - last year we saw ZZ Top!

Yipes, it looks like the belly dancers melted under the hot sun. The animals are beautiful, I always hate to see a cute little cow or chicken because it reminds me where burgers and fried chicken come from. And, where does a 1,000 pound bull take a leak?....Anywhere he wants to.

HAHAHA Fishie your conclusion frickin rocked.... I'm crying I'm laughing so hard. Sounds more fun than a rusty nail in the eye.

Thanks for braving the fair so we wouldn't have to
