GRR or Shipwreck?

So what do you think is better? Grizzly River run at DCA, or shipwreck rapids at seaworld san diego.

for me, the drops at GRR are fun, but I love shipwreck more because you get way more wet and it seems like a rougher ride. each little dip on shipwreck has the potential to get you soaked. lol

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

Neither unless it is 105 degrees and I use single rider. I hate them both because each time I either get sick or leave soaked.

GRR. It would be shipwreck except for the fact that you get absolutely SOAKED on that ride no matter what. I mean, you need a full change of clothes to ride that thing.

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

Yeah, Shipwreck would only be good on a nice hot day and if you're willing to stay wet.

At least it isn't salty water from the shamu or dolphin tank. hehe. =)

Eeewww

And yes, Shipwreck Rapids gets you soaked from head to toe. I hate that my shoes are dripping wet each time I get off... it's so uncomfortable! I ALWAYS bring a change of clothes for that, or buy a t-shirt at the exit.

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

Consider yourself LUCKY if you get soaked on Shipwreck. I worked that ride for a long time and I would see many people getting off that ride as dry as they were when they got on. I felt sorry for them during the summer after 90 minutes in line! But every so often we would override the automatic shutoff for the waterfall and THEN you would get soaked! After you would go thru it full blast the water level in the boat would be just about up to the seats! That was fun to do, but if they caught us doing it we would get in serious trouble. But it was ok if only employees were riding in the boat.

Anyway, since I did not really like my time at SW I am going to pick the ride at DCA - it is just more fun as far as I am concerned :P

And if you are wondering - the person standing at tower 3 (at the top of the boat just before the turn to the waterfall) has the override switch - and only them.

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

wow most of you guys seem to pick the exact opposite then what most of my experience this summer has showed me

Shipwreck gets you tons wetter then GRR and it seems to me that more people were happy with that

it's painfully hot in the summer and so it's nice to just get saturated with water so you can walk around and stand in those lines the rest of the day

the danger of Shipwreck makes it feel tons more exciting and the ride feels longer because it's rougher and has more action

outside of the drops GRR just dosn't have much else going on the ride is mostly gentle and smooth
heck almost nothing on the ride actualy gets you wet except the two drops and possibly the gyser at the end which is pretty dissapointing when it's hot out

heck the family's me and my g/f ended up riding GRR with all expressed dissapointment for the fact that GRR really didn't get you that wet and wondered if Disney had some sort of a policy against it

despite being physicaly longer GRR feels shorter than Shipwreck to me as well

in the end of the day me and my g/f both decided that Shipwreck was alot funner as a ride then GRR but that didn't make GRR bad just diff

as far as theming goes I'd say they're about equal but I perfer Shipwreck's whimsical type theming more then GRR's natural setting

I'd also say that I wish GRR incorperated some leaky pipes or something into it's uber long lift hill, I mean your trying to cool off from the sun in the middle of summer and instead of getting slightly wet from an early drop you go strait onto an uncovered lifthill it's painful o_o

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

GRR or shipwreck? I choose Bigfoot Rapids! (seriously I do like it better than both GRR or shipwreck)

- of note - I DO NOT like to get soaked at a park! -

Between these two my vote is virtualy null. GRR has a great layout and the drops are thrilling, however the themeing of the attraction lacks intrest (Kali is much more entertaining even though it is so short).
Shipwreck is just that, a wreck. The only plus this ride has is the themeing. However this is easily forgoton or unseen from the ride because of its poor layout design, malformed rapids, and bad sequence timing.

On second thought, between the two, I pick GRR.

Exactly we should have been able to vote on Bigfoot Rapids as well which is a very good attraction! Now then between Shipwreck, GRR and Bigfoot I would go with Bigfoot. GRR seems liek a rip-off in theming and idea (thanks Pressler and Harriss). GRR is pretty to look at but I vote for Bigfoot classic attraction in CA.

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

I like the theming of the ride in Sea World's Shipwreck Rapids (the turtle pool) that you pass and just the rest of the ride, however for drops and thrills, DCA's Grizzly River Rapids wins. I wish GGR had better theming, much longer ride (which is a plus on Knott's Bigfoot Rapids), but the same large drops.

I really wish they would close the lifthill up as well. When I went in summer of 2003 with my cousins, it was really hot out.

Oh well, my vote still goes to GRR because its just a beautiful mountain.

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

Wait a minute, I've been on Bigfoot Rapids over 10 times and it is nowhere near being as fun as GRR.

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

yea..big foot is fun but its a raft ride, your suppose to get wet and everytime i go on it i dont get wet at all. They turn the waterfall off before you go under it (the water falls use to stay on) and the water thingies go off before you get near it. between shipwreck and GRR, i voted for GRR. Its a fun ride and a cool mountain. You get wet but not soaked and the drops are cool. shipwreck is nice but you always get soaked from head to toe (which isnt a bad thing) but i hate walking around with soaked socks and water in my shoes. But these two rides are great rides. ^^^GRR did have leaky pipes while going up the lift...last Friday they didnt work, i wonder why.,,

Re: GRR or Shipwreck?

Grizzly River Run is the best Raft ride at a theme park.
Plus at night theres no line while at Sea World there's always a line (because its 1 of 3 rides in the park)

Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges... 'nugh said.

As for the other two, I can't judge since I haven't been on Shipwreck (Haven't been to Sea World since before Mission: Bremuda Triangle was put in in 1994!)
