Thumbs down Journey to Atlantis in Texas!-Is it going to be as bad as it looks?

Hey, I rarely talk about Sea world (on here and in real life) seeing as though I never go there. The latest JTA is being built at Sea World Texas and having seen the artwork it looks TERRIBLE! I've only visited the San Diego Park, so I only have their ride to go off of (and it's mediocre at best).

I've heard that the Orlando version is really well done. Don't know much else about those rides.

Here are some pics courtesy of Screamscape:

JTA Illustration

You can see the pics on screamscape at: http://www.screamscape.com/html/seaw...xas_2007_1.htm
Am I alone in thinking that A) Sea World has gotten really cheap; and B)That This ride is in no way like the original.

Your Thoughts??????????

am I seeing those pictures right? It looks like there's zero dark ride to this version and just one big unthemed log flume. If so that's a waste of a ride.

are you serious or joking? o_O are you saying Seaworld is building the same ride again and again making it progressivly LESS themed?

is this a subtle way of them showing their priorities or showing that theming doesn't matter? o_o

my g/f hated Atlantis because it was her first flume ride and scared her and it didn't have theming to lighten the mood much at all (in san deigo) it took Jurrassic Park and Splash to turn her around

but wow those renders make it seem like it barly has even a coaster segment

Just went on this over the weekend in San Diego - very exhilarating - and I should have brought a bar of soap with me too - very 'drenching' indeed.

The Texas version looks very 'lacking' in comparison to San Diego version.

I originally thought the SD version was sort of a step backwards from the Orlando, theming wise. This looks very weak. I'd say this is cheaper looking than anything even Cedar Fair is putting in (coaster wise). I had to give a double take when I originally saw these. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this ride looks like s***.

The ride looks crappy. The drop is narly.

I like Florida's JTA more than San Diego though.

but they have the backwards drop gimick! (The two red dots on the right are turntables) and I know there was so much drama behind the San Diego version and why it ended up looking like it did (**** you Donna Frye!!!) so I'm wondering what could possibly be up in Texas that they resort to going that "cheap" on it.

That looks awful. I can't wait until the next one they build. There won't even be a track. You'll get to sit in a stationary ride vehicle in the middle of a sidewalk for 2 minutes... Seems to be the way they're degressing...digressing...? Ah! What's the opposite of progress?!

This is really sad. It seems they are putting most of their good work into the Busch parks and leaving the Sea World parks out to dry.

Yeah I don't get that. Why are the Busch Gardens parks so fantastic, yet SeaWorld consistently puts me off?

JTA started out as a well themed dark ride/coaster/water ride combo in Orlando, now all we have is this. So yes, yes it's getting worse.

In the SD one it looks like they cheapened out on puting the theming on the stairs tower. It looks sooooo bad.

This had me laughing. Talk about one theme park ride that consistantly gets "less & less". Wow.

Perhaps Sea world Texas has less money for a attraction than orlando did, or San diego did before the legal issues took away money and city forced them to scale it back...

(Busch gardens Tampa is rolling in rehab money for each land, and Busch gardens willamsburg is rolling in yearly money... but seawords are not as much)
