Question Sea World San Diego Christmas time?

I keep hearing that Sea World is doing a few things for Christmas I was wondering if anyone had gone and checked it out? I'm probably going on the 18th since my pass expires soon and I want to play photographer.

Re: Sea World San Diego Christmas time?

Okay, we did the breakfast with Shamu thing. Very nice little buffet, not overly elaborate, but definitely filling. We had an upclose view of the orcas and had two trainers explaining what went into the different behaviors.
As far as the rest of the park, they are not into full holiday mode. They only do the complete holiday schedule on Saturdays until the 26th when it goes daily until New Years Eve (Now just to clarify this is the San Diego park). There is holiday decorations up but no special shows until the weekend right before Xmas. The week between Xmas and New Years the park is a madhouse, due to the crowds that come in for the Holiday Bowl football game. I assume they are "saving" the good stuff for the bowl crowds. Frankly it was a bit of a dissapointment.
Now the park had very light crowds today, with the Skytower down waiting for it's new cabin , and the Penguin Encounter being totally refurbished. If you are looking for the complete holiday treatment, it's not there yet. If you don't mind that and want to do the park with out being jostled by the legions of college football fans coming in the week between Xmas and New Years now is the time to do it.

Re: Sea World San Diego Christmas time?

Hmm I think I shall be going on the 18th then despite the lack of Holiday-ness. I just want to use my pass one more time and get some more pictures. Thanks for the report so I wasn't overly disappointed when I got there haha!

Re: Sea World San Diego Christmas time? -Pictures.. arrrr

Sorry for the picture quality or whatnot.. I have a cheap digital camera that works ok.. not like the ones others on this board have. Only major disappointment was they didn't decorate the Wild Artic base.. that could have been interesting with the makeshift holiday decorations or whatnot.

The Holiday Shamu show was cool too.. i didnt get many pics of it because i was too far back and wasnt willing to get wet at 7pm when it was cold

.. more next post

Re: Sea World San Diego Christmas time?

I saw the Shamu holiday show tonight at 5:45 -- it was completely overpacked. Next year, I'm going BEFORE Christmas (only this time on a Saturday so I don't miss most everything). I didn't want to wait another two hours for the sea lion show, so I suppose that will wait for next year, too. Anyway, seeing the whales dance to "and heaven and nature sing" made me cry. They are so beautiful!
