Dreamworks Animation free to appear at other parks.

Steven Spielberg has given the go ahead for Dreamworks Animation characters to appear in other theme parks. Previously Universal Studios had the rights to all of the Dreamworks characters such as Shrek and Madagear characters.

This should be interesting, if parks like Six Flags or Cedar Fair want to add Shrek to their parks. Heck, ever Disney could but doubtful. lol

this might be mainly for universal.. since they have been letting other parks have the shrek 4-d movie...

but they might want to tie in with the 3rd movie.... or if they get another hit movie they can use it...

(especially since they didn't buy dreamworks skg.. at least Steven was kind since paramount gets to distro the animated movies..)

While the Shrek 4-D animated movie attraction has been a hit at Universal parks in California, Florida and Japan, DreamWorks Animation has had trouble convincing Universal to make rides based on some of its other animated properties. The company will now be able to shop those projects around.
It appears that Universal didn't want to make new attractions with other Dreamworks characters. I don't blame Universal for not using Shark Tales and Over The Hedge, but they could add to the Shrek attractions or add the penguins to a new area.

Re: Dreamworks Animation free to appear at other parks.

They have done this with Nick and Scooby as some Six Flags and some Cedar Fair parks have Spongebob and Scooby rides, movies, etc.

I think this is a good thing for Universal, but don't expect any Universal stuff at Disney parks or any Universal stuff in other FL or CA parks, Magic Mountain or Knott's for example.

Then again, if Universal buys SFMM then expect to see lots of Universal stuff there.

Re: Dreamworks Animation free to appear at other parks.

I would think that outside of the Busch Entertainment Parks there would not be a huge market in the U.S. for attractions using these characters. By market I mean, not park guests, but parks that would actually spend the cash to pay the fee to use these characters but then also to build an attraction that would feature them.

The article does not state whether this opens up parks to use them only in the U.S. or worldwide. The market for these, I feel, would be for parks overseas. Europe and Asia would be great places for parks to utilize these characters IMO. Plus, parks over there tend to spend the cash to build unique attractions that could benefit from all this.

makes sense since paramount no longer owns any theme parks, speilberg needs a place to promote the characters and I don't think his relationship with universal is too good right now.

why would BEC spend money for characters that might not be popular in a while... sesemee street characters were already being used by then in one park and being expanded to the others.

i would figure this would be for six flags mainly.... that or cedar fair...

as well as the international compaines.
