IOA and Harry Potter

According to Screamscape:

Quote:
A Screamscape source has confirmed to us that the IOA project is indeed a real Harry Potter project. No more false rumors claiming “letters of intent” from J.K. Rowling to Disney and all that nonsense, it seems that Universal has sealed the deal at last. This has been a long time coming too since Universal has been trying to gain Harry Potter since way back when the first film was still being shot.
Still unofficial, but it looks growingly likely Universal's IOA has finally gotten the rights to Harry Potter. Personally, I think it will fit in there great, and am glad someone finally got the rights to this franchise; and someone, unlike Six Flags, that might actually theme it right, instead of slapping a logo on a coaster.

Of course. Quite possibly the best themed area of the park, not to mention the only original area, is now going to be overlayed with a movie franchise. Way to go Universal.

Re: IOA and Harry Potter

nbc needs profit... they have been trying for ages to find a way to do it...

even if they have a mini land in lost continent for harry potter it might be enough...

esp if it is a robot coaster

Re: IOA and Harry Potter

Interesting..... very interesting.

Personally, I don't quite buy the letter of intent thing was complete nonsense. Disney could have very well created a proposal and sent her a letter to get J. K. Rowling to sign over the rights. Receiving such a letter doesn't make anything official.

As for the truth behind this and the story I linked to?

*I think there's nothing to know for sure until we can see something for sure.
*I think somebody owning theme park rights to books in the public domain is complete BS.

Re: IOA and Harry Potter

frankly i don't think disney was ever interested in HP. and not sure how it will fit in IOA. I think it would do better at the studios. it's not like they dont have room for it.

Re: IOA and Harry Potter

Personally I think HP would be a great fit into IOA, and if it has to replace an existing island my vote would be for the Lost Continent.

It's themeing is up there with the best, but the actual attractions are some of the weakest in the park (with the obvious exception of Duelling Dragons)
In addition, I don't think it would take as much as, say, Toon Lagoon to transform it the world of HP.
Heck, Poseidon's Fury could be kept basically the same and a stronger story could be introduced to an attraction that's a bit under-whelming at the moment.

On the whole I look forward to it (if it happens...)

Re: IOA and Harry Potter

I wonder if Lost Continent would be kept. But Harry Potter (Warner Brothers) and Lord of the Rings (New Line owned by Warner, right?) would get their own attractions and/or mini-lands in Lost Continent. Then that particular island wouldn't have to be stuck with 1 movie themed-island (ala Jurassic Park). Seuss, Marvel, and Toon can still get different characters and stories but in a consistent theme.

So I guess my point is, I hope Lost Continent stays with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings additions.

PS, I didn't really buy the HP rumor for Disney either. Warner Brothers has some existence in Universal parks (ala Beetlejuice), but then again also with Six Flags...

Jim Hill claims the island may actually be themed with "Oz".

Re: IOA and Harry Potter

Jim Hill has no evidence towards Oz to make that claim. He just believes that HP is still coming to Disney and knows that Oz was recently put in Tokyo. Now I'm still not believing this HP to Lost Continent thing but I have an even harder time seeing it rethemed to Oz. There's no way that Dueling Dragons and the Unicorn would still fit in that land if they did that which was claimed and I see no way Universal gets rid of DD.

I won't believe anything until the guys in the suits make a statement to the press and show us the plans. Until then, all this code name business is just a cry for free publicity.
