Universal Japan coaster update

I was able to manage a quick visit to Universal Studios Japan to check out the progress of their new Coaster, Hollywood Dream (or express?). The track soars above the main entrance of the park and above buildings in the Hollywood Blvd area. Then dips into banked turns by the park's lagoon before returning to the boarding platform. The coaster does not seem too intense... as there are no inversions or super scary drops. Some hills are there and should allow for some fun airtime, similar to DCA's Hollywood Express' track over the midway area.
One complaint though... while I welcome a decent coaster ride anywhere... the placement of tis coaster ruins some of USJ's best themed facades around Hollywood Blvd. What were they thinking??? Oh well.. at least we should be in for a fun little coaster ride when it debuts later in the spring of 07. I took these photos with my cellphone (so apologies the quality is bad) but just wanted to show you what the ride looks like. Enjoy..

Wonderful photos as usual TDLFAN! You're really lucky to be able to visit all the parks.

What happened to your regular camera? Is G-fan getting you a new one?

Put this in the dictionary on how not to do a coaster in a theme park. It looks fun but I agree, it looks like it ruins the theming.

Re: Universal Japan coaster update

It looks like a winner...I'm with you though...the placement of it is just out of place...nice detailed street...B&M coaster over it. Its just not quality.

Re: Universal Japan coaster update

Just an update on this coaster. It will officially open on March 9th, 2007 and yours truly plans to be there to capture the excitement on photos and hopefully take a spin on it. You can read all about it here and preview a short musical clip of Dreams Come True's (a Japanese pop-duo) specially written song for the ride called "Osaka Lover", so be sure to click on the pink "ON" button found on the link down below.. This ride will feature fiber optic lights and riders will have the choice of several music tunes to choose from to customize their journey. I like "Osaka Lover"s eurodance sound.. too bad you can't get up and dance thru the ride... Read all about it here..

Re: Universal Japan coaster update

What I find interesting is you'll be able to choose one of 5 songs to listen to while you ride!

Re: Universal Japan coaster update

come on Disney, you know you can develop this technology for screemin'

then you can have a choice of 5 california songs...

imagine that, a B&M with a on board soundtrack, where you can pick the track.

i wonder who developed the on board audio, B&M or universal japan... (since B&M also never does a launched coaster, they only make a coaster that could be adapted to technology to do it...)

Re: Universal Japan coaster update

I have to admit I am quite intrigued about this "choosing a song" process. Do all riders in a single vehicle get to vote once they are on board and the computer plays the winning song?? If that is the case, then you may not get to hear the song you chose... I am very interested in experiencing this out. I am also interested in seeing the vehicles light up in LED lights, especially at night. That should be cool to see. Can't wait for my visit there!!!

Re: Universal Japan coaster update

/\ Yeah because Midway Mania has no new technology or anything. Oohh...a B&M with sound. Yay. Disney has had Vekomas and Intamins with sound for years.

But I have to say the choose your own sound track sounds interesting...though I guess Japanese tastes are different but none of those options sound like good blood pumping coaster songs.

Wow, I haven't checked on this in a long time. Wasn't the original plan for a Spiderman coaster?

Re: Universal Japan coaster update

Looks to be a shorter version of Apollo's Chariot at BGW with a soundtrack. Definitely shorter than Nitro at SFGA.

Eh. Both of the previous coasters are OK, but other B&M's are better. I don't know if this will be worth the effort. I think I'd rather have UO's Mummy instead. At least weather is never a factor for Mummy.
