New name for Bonfante Gardens???

http://www.screamscape.com/html/smaller_parks.htm

BONFANTE GARDENS (Gilroy, California)
Quote:
Park News - (2/27/07) Bonfante Gardens is no more... starting in 2007 the park will be known as Gilroy Gardens to create more awareness of the parks location. The park will also feature Gil, a new garlic themed mascot in the park as well as the new logo. The new website at GilroyGardens.org is already live.

Re: New name for Bonfante Gardens???

I actually like the name Gilroy Gardens.

It's an unbelievably beautiful park and to take out the "Gardens" would do it dis-service.

Re: New name for Bonfante Gardens???

while the name isn't bad, I'm kinda sorry for Mr. Bonfante (it's kind alike re-naming Disneyland to Anaheimland...)

Man I need to get up there.

Re: New name for Bonfante Gardens???

I thought that they re-named it properly a few years back when they started calling it a "non-profit"...

My aunt worked for the founder/builder of the place. We had plenty of free tickets during the first year it was open.

Now, plenty of promotions (and a few operators) later, it still doesn't draw in the crowds like a place of that caliber should be doing.

Oh well...Enjoy it while it lasts.

Interesting mascot there.

It was nice the one time I went, but I doubt I'll be going again. I've got family down in Gilroy and I don't think they even go even though my cousin works there and probably gets discounts.

Noticed that while they had "Gilroy Gardens" on the top of the front page of the website, it's still called Bonfante Gardens throughout the rest of the links....

But, one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. Looking forward to going again.

Re: New name for Bonfante Gardens???

I never wanted to go to Bonfante Gardens, I mean has anyone here actually been to Gilroy? The Garlic smell lingers. My mother and I stopped there for dinner on the way back from visiting the Winchester Mystery House a few years back. Of course I don't quite fancy a garlic themed botanical garden park. Maybe I'm not the target audience.

Yeah, that amused me with the Bonfante Gardens business on the rest of the page.

Between this park and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, they're the two amusement parks I'm closest to, so I like this one. BEAUTIFUL setting, and the rides, while no Disneyland, obviously, are still fun. For some reason I'm having problems with the name change, but I don't know why.
