Where exactly was Pacific Ocean Park?

I have been looking at old pictures of Pacific Ocean Park in Santa Monica... where exactly was it?

It wasn't located on the famous Santa Monica Pier, was it?

Re: Where exactly was Pacific Ocean Park?

Would you be referring to Marineland maybe? I think that was in San Pedro. Maybe this is soemthing else.

This site tells you more than you could ever want to know about the place.

Re: Where exactly was Pacific Ocean Park?

I loved POP. I used to go there when I was real young, so my memories are limited, but I still remember the great feeling I had there.

No, this was a totally different place.

I found that it was located between Navy Ave and Pier Ave in Santa Monica.

It was between the 2 parking lots in the image above, I believe.

Re: Where exactly was Pacific Ocean Park?

BTW, if anyone has memories of POP you may want to check out Lords of Dogtown and Dogtown and Z Boys (a skateboarding film and skateboarding documentary.)

For Lords they actually re-created the pier. It was pretty amazing.

Re: Where exactly was Pacific Ocean Park?

Since it was right on the Santa Monica/Venice border, existing half in one city and half in another, there's extensive information on POP and the previous incarnations of the Ocean Park pier at the Venice history page:
http://www.westland.net/venicehistory/

Lots more info elsewhere; just Google it:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

And no, Marineland wasn't in San Pedro, it was nearby in Palos Verdes.

Re: Where exactly was Pacific Ocean Park?

It is just soo depressing looking at the pictures of the abandoned and deteriorating Pacific Ocean Park, especially after how successful it was against Disneyland. I wish this never has to happen to a theme park ever again! I mean what if it was the opposite and we were all on POPChat and wondering "Where Exactly Was Disneyland?" That would suck.

I think they should pay some tribute to the POP in the new Paradise Pier. That would be soo cool. I wouldn't mind seeing the Mahi Mahi ride where the Maliboomer is.

Actually, it was just South of the southern parking lot.

Here's a link to an old Santa Monica promotional video that has a section devoted to POP - find that section 9mins 50 seconds into it.
