"Rumble Project" Coaster Coming to USF

USF's first coaster will be added to the park. It appears like the ride will begin construction in 2008. and completed in 2009. Initially, it was going to bear the name of a new California Dream coaster at Universal Studios Japan. The USF attraction should ne similar to CG in Japan. Vekoma has been rumored to have won the bid for building it. If so, this should create a a new challenge for the coaster company in that they will be building a ride that is intended to be a combination of thrill and scenic overview of the park - and create the sensation that one is flyinmg thru the air.

Here's a video of USJ's Hollywood Dream coaster -

To me it seems like this ride would be a strange fit at USF. An outdoor roller coaster just doesn't seem to fit in the theme of a studio park.

Re: "Rumble Project" Coaster Coming to USF

What is your source? I'm not sure I trust the credibility of this... the Hollywood Dream Coaster could not work in the same layout as it does in Japan because the station there uses the space currently occupied by Terminator 2:3D. Not to mention the Hard Rock Hotel is only a bit away... then they'd also have a noise problem. And they're ALREADY adding Simpsons and Harry Potter - does it make sense to open two huge attractions at roughly the same time (HP and Hollywood Dream), rather then opening one, waiting a while, and then opening another to maximize crowds over a longer period of time?

Sorry, this isn't adding up for me. Please provide us a source and more details on the layout (ie where the station would be located).

...not to mention the ride would look hideous among the intricately themed Hollywood areas.

The rumor is abuzz on Theme Park Insider, Screamscape, and elsewhere. There has been speculation on both Themepark Insider and screamscape that Jimmy Neutron will be removed as it's five year contract will be up this year. Screamscape had also suggested that Twister might be removed.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't mind seeing an outside coaster at USF. Only, I definitely do not desire to see any current attractions moved in order to make room for it. The temptation might be there to redesign USF into a coaster park - and IOA is doing just fine in that arena.

Okay, so this is a rumour. Your post made it sound more like a fact. Yes, I've heard the rumour, and it has been roaming around on those sites. I have no problem with Jimmy Neutron being removed (it was kind of mediocre in the first place), as for Twister, I think that still has a bit of life left in it (there isn't much you can do with that small area anyway). I doubt they'd redesign it into a coaster park - rather, a thrilling THEMED studio park (Simpsons, MIB, and Revenge of the Mummy are all recent/coming additions that cater to a more thrill/teen oriented audience). I love outdoor coasters like Hulk, but I don't think it would visually or thematically fit into Universal Studios. Hulk works because it is an enormous Gamma experiment that fits right into a metallic metropolis, while Dueling Dragons works since it is secluded and the queue area is heavily themed with a story.

Just my opinions.

I'm happy about the removal rumors, I'd like to see both Jimmy Neutron and esp Twister gone, and just about anything new put in their place. The coaster rumor itself sounds cool too. I just like it that they're putting money in the parks again, and freshening things up.

Re: "Rumble Project" Coaster Coming to USF

We've discussed this at length over at IOA Central and if it goes in like it did in Japan, most of us are against it. I don't mind a coaster but I'd rather it either be highly themed or indoor like the mummy already is. I find USF to be a beautiful park and I'd hate to see that ruined.

The current rumor however is that the lift hill and loading station would go in the boneyard area and that Jimmy Neutron may be removed in the process. That the ride would go out over citywalk a bit as well before coming back into the park.

I don't see what is so Hollywood or Dreamy about that ride.

Well put. It does look like your standard, run of the mill coaster at that. After thinking about it for the past several days, I don't see why we need to copy Japan and have an outdoor coaster plowing thru the ambiance of most of the attractions at studio park.

I wouldn't like Jimmy to go but I wouldn't mind if Twister would dissapear...I don't think USF needs coasters...IOA should have them...it's nice both the parks are different

Re: "Rumble Project" Coaster Coming to USF

Twister is an experience that USH does not have. Several of those on this board have stated that they don't cre for it. I would like to give this attraction a try one of these days and give it my own appraial. If they tear it out before then, I guess that I'll rely on the comments of those who don't care for it.

In the meantime, I side in with MiceChatters that feel an outdoor coaster at USF would be out of step with he park's movie themed ambiance, and it only serve to junk up the atmosphere.

You are both right, kirbillicious and tracestar. If Universal wants to build this coaster, they should do so at IOA and/or City Walk.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see any more of IOA's precious space taken up by another coaster. Three is enough. I don't think either park needs this attraction. Thankfully, it's just a rumor.

Re: "Rumble Project" Coaster Coming to USF

newer projections from Screamscape keep it pretty close to the soundstage areas, unlike Japan's which is right over Hollywood Blvd...I think it could be done ok like this.

Hi there Chris. If they could tuck it away like Jurasic Park, I would have no qualms with it. The ride seems like it would be fun - contingent on it's being placed in the right locale. Lance is on top of his game. I admire him greatly.
