Tony Hawk's Spinning "Skateboard" Coaster

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http:...?v=2B1eBrvAaIQ

Tony Hawk's Big Spin, a $6.5 million coaster with rotating cars will be added to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for the 2008 season. The skateboarding-theme for this family coaster will make it a blast for eveyone. Talk about innovative! Can't wait to jump on and zip about in all directions at once.

Re: Tony Hawk's Spinning "Skateboard" Coaster

that looks like lots of fun... if only Disney could do something like this.... I really hope they utilize a ride system like this indoors with bubble projections on the walls and a slow entry to the chain lift with features of a dark ride... Oh wait... while they are at it... they should give it a Finding Nemo theme and call it Crushs's Coaster... lol... all joking aside this looks amazing but for this ride you posted its six flags which explains the lack of theme... I think if done right this type of Ride system would be awesome, especially if Disney could put their little touch of magic into it! Think of the possibilities for an awesome family coaster and with an awesome theme! However the ride does look kinda bland due to lack of theming but thats to be expected with Six Flags

Bland is the name of the game at Six Flags.

You couldn't be more right, tamasurvivor. Disney could do a lot with a ride system like this. It would make for one thrilling special effects oriented dark ride - w/an external track component.

It's coming to California for one thing. DLR has nothing of the sort. Plus, it's a much longer coaster - with more hills, spiraling, twists and turns - and spinning action.

Re: Tony Hawk's Spinning "Skateboard" Coaster

The differences between Primevil Whirl (Dinoland) and Crush's Coaster are HUGE.

Primevil Whirl is basically an off-the-shelf spinning coaster (so is Mullholland Madness) that could be placed anywhere. Which is why they aren't themed so great.

Crush's coaster is highly themed, with dark ride elements and I do believe it's an original layout. (not so sure on that one though). But it's also not a traditional mouse coaster (MM) or Spinning Mouse (PW).

Nice description of the distinction between the off-the-shelf Disney spinning coasters (PW and MM) and Crush's Coaster. Tony Hawk's Big Spin is a unique layout - although it will exist in more than one Six Flags park. ACrush's coaster doesn't involve anywhere near the motion that this coaster does. A Disney dark ride/coaster of this order (especially at DLR) would be wonderful!

Going up! Tony Hawk! Going up! Tony Hawk! It's there!!!

I think it looks fun. Not every ride in the world needs theming to be fun. (I guess the people who are "yawning" this also hate Screamin. Too bad for them, more rides for me!) I've been on Sierra Sidewinder at Knott's and Spider at Lagoon, and they are a total blast! Should be a good addition to DK.

There's a skateboarding theme??? I must have missed it. All I saw was exposed metal tracks and spinny coaster cars.

It would have been pretty cool if it was skateboarding theme. Giant ramps and rails like you were skateboarding at some giant skate park.

Oh I understand that. My point was that what's so different about this Tony Hawk ride system and what they've already done with these two rides. People keep saying Disney could do so much with this ride system, my point was that they already have.

Yes. An actual gian skateboard park setting would have made the teming of the ride even better - ramps, rails, concrete steps, etc. However, the ride does travel up and down hill and spin like a skateboard. Disney could create much better theming. In the meantime, this ride will be hecka fun.

Re: Tony Hawk's Spinning "Skateboard" Coaster

This should be an interesting addition to Marine World, they haven't had a new coaster added for awhile and the last one that got added got torn down. I'd probably not go on it, because I'm not a huge fan of roller coasters and dislike spinning, but I'm sure some people will have a blast on it.

There is a giant ramp as part of the ride. It's not a key focus, admittedly, but it's there (even in the initial video, if you care to look at it again). Besides, I think a lot of skaters would think exposed metal tracks would be a skater's dream. So I think it is themed better than you are giving it credit for!
