Dixie Stampede Closes

It's not at WDW, but I think it's been pretty popular with visitors (I always wanted to go, but never did). They just shut down unexpectedly.

Sad Farewell Dixie Stampede - Orlando

Here is the official news story from Channel 13 http://www.cfnews13.com/News/Local/2...shut_down.html :

Quote:
Dixie Stampede Shut Down

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede dinner show suddenly shut down Monday.
The attraction, located along Interstate 4 near Disney World, said it has sold its 13-acre property.

"Before we built the Dixie Stampede in Orlando, we looked for the best location we could find. Its visibility from I-4 and proximity to major theme parks made it ideal," said Fred Hardwich, CEO of Dixie Stampede. "Because of this visibility and the success of the area, Dixie Stampede accepted an offer for the property it simply could not refuse."

"The people we have worked with in Orlando have been incredible," said Dolly Parton in a press release Monday. "We at Dixie Stampede have been blessed, but I am a firm believer in timing and opportunity. This was an opportunity we could not pass up. We're exploring our options now and we will be back better than ever."

News 13 also heard from some workers at the attraction who just learned Monday they will no longer have a job, at least for now.

Dixie Stampede said it was looking at a new location to build and open a new dinner show. The attraction has been open in Central Florida since June 2003.

Although the attraction is closed to the general public, it will be open for a charity event on Sunday. The Orlando Harley Owners Group will be hosting a Riding Home benefit for the Russell Home for Atypical Children. The cost of $15 includes a T-shirt, a poker hand, multiple stops and a huge private party at the Dixie Stampede. Registration will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Cypress Cove Park, at 290 Holden Ave. in Orlando. For more information go to www.orlandohog.com or call (407) 423-0346.

Re: Dixie Stampede Closes

From what I read in the paper, it looks like they were doing well financially-they just got a really good deal to sell.

That is what I saw - I wonder if the Premium Outlets needed more space? I hope it doesn't become a strip mall there too.

Re: Dixie Stampede Closes

I've wanted to take my kids to see this show for some time now, but it always got pushed to the back burner. I'm bummed we missed it. We did try to get tickets for the Christmas show this past year, but it was sold out! I wonder how much money they were offered and what will take its place.

This is exactly what I was thinking....some retailer must have wanted the space really badly since it is right off of I-4. Or another hotel....

Re: Farewell Dixie Stampede - Orlando

it looks like they plan on re-opening, just in a new location. It does stink for those who work there though.

Re: Dixie Stampede Closes

I don't know if this is the same article Eric posted on the non-disney parks area, but it does sound like they plan to re-open at some point, just in a new location.

Re: Dixie Stampede Closes

I think this is a shame! But hopefully "The Most Fun Place to Eat in Orlando" will re-open soon!

I have heard elsewhere that they got an offer to sell that they couldn't refuse and they are now looking for a new location
