Anyone familiar with Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ?

-It's a major stop on our high school senior trip next month.

I was wondering if anybody has any tips, ideas, do's & don'ts... -you know.

The last Six Flags I went to, which changed it's name recently, (I think), was SF New England, and it was a splitting image of the parks I doodle up in RCT3. Heh, I think I've been spoiled by Disneyland.

Though, If I'm not mistaken Great Adventure ranks among Magic Mountain in size and options. The New England park probably doesn't.

If it helps, I'm not into uber-extreme rides, so no Montu or anything like that, and I like rides that aren't scary, but are really fun.

Re: Anyone familiar with Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ?

Kingda Ka, Medusa, Nitro, and El Toro are "mega rides" at the park - and they come with "mega" lines.

More up your alley, from what you've said, the Mine Train, the new Batman coaster, Skull Mountain, and Houdini's Escape - but sadly that last one is closed this year.

I would suggest knowing at least one attraction you really want to ride, and go to it first thing if you get there in the morning. I've had some really bad long line experiences at the park.

Re: Anyone familiar with Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ?

Six Flags New England used to be a small regional park, that has been trying to fit in under the Six Flags name. (used to be called Riverside Park) Honestly the park is not that great with the exception of the few extreme rides that have been built in recent year under the new name, and too many extreme rides don't necessarily make for a good park either. I haven't been to Great Adventure since I was 11 but from what I remember it was better than SFNE, which still suffers from a bit of an identity crisis since changing names.

Although the Superman Ride of Steel coaster is amazing at SFNE, that is about all that is worth the hour and half trip out there.

Definitely hit Kingda Ka...it's an awesome experience. One of the more unique coasters I've seen

Re: Anyone familiar with Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ?

I would suggest getting the Q-bot if you can. We did it when we went to this park a few years back and were able to ride everything (including Kingda Ka in it's debut season) in 4 hours.

It's a REALLY fun park. Don't short change things like Skull Mountain, mine train, etc. They are all really fun.

Highlights for me were Nitro, Superman, Medusa and Kingda Ka. El Toro is also new.

It's a VERY crowded park, I used to live an hour away from it. The park's crowd is mostly people from Philly, Brooklynn, Bronx, ect. I request eating at times when no one would eat: lunch at 2:30, dinner at 7 (if your there for dinner).
Highlights
-Kingda Ka (very creepy looking)
-El Toro (best ride in park)
-Nitro (best time to ride is when it's dark out)
-Superman: Ultimate Flight
-Batman The Ride
-Batman The Dark Knight
-Skull Mountain
-Medusa
DO NOT GO ON THE GREAT AMERICAN SCREAM MACHINE (YOU'LL THANK ME) IT LOOKS GOOD BUT IT'S NOT.

I actually liked GASM. If you think that's rough, you should ride Viper at Magic Mountain.
