What will replace King Kong?

Well, we all know by now: Kong ain't coming back to USH.

With that sad news over, it's time to look towards the future. So put on your Imagineering, err, Universal Creative hats and come up with some ideas for its replacement.

Some notes:
It has to be indoors.
It has to fit within the space.
It has to be owned by Universal, or be available for Universal to pick up. (in other words, don't suggest an Indiana Jones exhibit)
It has to be able to be seen in the same amount of time Kong was (approx. 3 minutes)

Personally, I think they can do wonders with Marvel superheroes. The cityscape theme of Kong can be carried over, but I cannot think how they can do this without it turning into some super-short, glorified stunt show.

Your thoughts?...

They should change their minds and bring back Kong. Kong is a movie classic and will never get old for visitors of all ages. They're making a big mistake not bringing Kong back.

The problem of bringing kong back, is your bringing back technology that was wasn't even great for 1980s. Universal has so much potential now a days, I would even say they are pretty much up to par with Disney now. They could easily do something much better. Plus they were planning on doing a make over to that part of the backlot anyway, thats why they don't seem to be TOO concerned about it.

Oh!! I know!!

They should add Twister!!

I think it's like the best movie ever! I watch it like once or more a month. But the only problem is, if they were to make it like Florida's how would they get to it? Since it's like a walk-on attraction?

Re: What will replace King Kong?

I would think they should capitalize on Godzilla didn't they release the movie a while back? It would combine all their technologies into one big quick show...or better yet CLOVERFIELD lol

Re: What will replace King Kong?

I am going to take a bit from my other post I made last night...

If they cant do Kong, Maybe an encounter with the Spinosaurus from Jurassic park 3 or an re-enaction of that epic scene in Jurassic park 1 where you are in the tram right along the electric fence only to find it raining inside and find the power shut down all of a sudden, once the power shuts down the tram operator will play the usual "oh nothing could go wrong" thing that always happens in the attractions on the tram tour, and then out of the broken fence comes the T-Rex/Spinosaurus not to mention its raining just like in the movie and there is foliage all around and jurassic park jeeps everywhere... and think of this... the T-rex can get close to the tram just like Kong did and you could hear it breathing through its nostrils just like in the movie when it got all close to the jeep... You could even do two Dinosaurs on each side just like in The lost world and they can nudge the tram [the similar effect that kong had with the bride but a whole lot more terrifying], then when its all over the Tram operator tells the driver to "get going out of this sound stage and get us to safety"... and since it is a soundstage and I am sure they could use some of the movie sets too or even after the encounter with the T-rex is over go into detail about how animatronics are used in movie making and how we were all just part of the epic scene in Jurassic park.

Or there is always some other big monster encounter they could do like the Cloverfield monster [though they would probably have to buy rights to do that one], or they could do something original that fits into the big theme of using a large animatronic creature and finding ways to educate on the importance in film after the experience is over! But thats just my mind thinking of all the possibilities that could come.

The point is if they wont do Kong I would like to see an attraction similar in the effect its an encounter with something big on the tram tour and it ties into the movie making process and is not only thrilling, shocking, and fun but also educational at the same time and educational about big creatures used in movies since the whole reason I love the tram tour is learning along the way while having lots of fun.

Re: What will replace King Kong?

I agree that putting in a Jurrassic Park T-Rex would be an excellent idea, especially since, correct me if I'm wrong, they don't have a JP River Adventure on the west coast.

Re: What will replace King Kong?

They totally do have the Jurassic Park river adventure on the lower lot... in fact Hollywood was the first to get that attraction before Japan and Florida. Though the river adventure doesnt have the up close and personal encounter with the T-rex that my idea has... on the river adventures its a simple few seconds view of the T-rex and then the drop... I was thinking of something along the lines of the Kong encounter something a little longer than that and something re-enacting that scene from the first movie... that scene was epic... and isnt Universal about taking people into the movies and immersing them into everything.

But anyhow... how different is it for them to have the Mummy walkthrough maze, the Mummy attraction in the Tram Tour, and then the Mummy coaster before Van Helsing came along to take place there almost while later. Having one more Jurassic park attraction added to Universal wont be bad if done right... my basis is that this part of the tram tour will recreate the piece of the move where the river adventure is an attraction all on its own.

That scene is the turning point of the movie in Jurassic park where all hell breaks loose and the first encounter with a carniverous dinosaur of that size was... it took the whole safety factor away from the people touring the park and then made them get into a fight for survival... well my idea [since this is armchair imagineering] is something along the lines of that and basically having the manacing dinosaur come close to the tram just like Jaws does and to the point you can hear it breathing just like in the movie. Not to mention the detail you could see of the sharp teeth and the whole thing of everything raining down at the same time would make it all the more intense but still thrilling... then when its all over you exit the soundstage and the tram operator does his spiel about movies and all... education and entertainment [which was also the theme of Jurassic park until the dinosaurs got loose]

WE do have a JP river adventure on west coast.

How about a Back to the Future or E.T. on the studio tour since they took these good rides out.

Re: What will replace King Kong?

Uni has a long history of Monster/horror films. I like the idea of doing something along those lines.

You know the routine:
We enter a set for a film that is about to shoot. It is about Vampires (or monsters of any kind). We drive through the first room and see all the great set dressing and props just ready for the shoot later in the day. The driver tells us that the director has left the set because they are having trouble figuring out how to end the scene and are working on a gruesome new ending for the film.

As we drive along to the next room - a graveyard scene - we disturb a branch of small bats and they start to swarm and fly around the tram. While people are screaming and focusing on the bats, they become startled to find the caskets and crypts opening all around a graveyard scene with vampires rising up out of their graves and flying toward the tram (using Kukla robotic arms). The lights go out just before they reach the tram. You hear the driver scream "They've got me" just as the floor drops about a foot. Red eyes are moving quickly all around and you feel the whoosh of warm wet air. Outside the tram, you see the soft shadow of what looks to be the driver being carried away all the while screaming to the tram to get away and save yourselves.

The lights come back up suddenly and the set looks like nothing ever happened. The driver is still in the cab and says "And that's a wrap - thank you for helping us film the perfect ending to this difficult shoot"

You get the idea. They aren't going to have trouble replacing Kong. I loved him, but it was always just a little bit boring by today's standards. I'm sure that Universal Creative will do something fun. Better than the terrible Tokyo Drift (too bad that isn't the part of the tour that burned).

There's already a Jurassic Park section when you cross by the Lost World set. Those spitting dinosaurs (name's escaped me at the moment) rise and spray water at the passengers...

Re: What will replace King Kong?

If I had to wager real money, I'd go with a super hero theme, The Hulk perhaps (assuming this new movie is not the drek the last one was) or Hell Boy.

But what about this.... As a whole the United States population is ageing. Perhaps a different type of attraction: Something based on Wicked could be interesting to a wide demographic.

TRANSFORMERS!!!!!

It would be perfect. Same huge scale with larger than life characters, GM could sponsor it, heck they already built a life size Bumble Bee! AND it could be done by the time the sequel comes out!

No more old stuff. I love movies and even I never sat through the 80's King Kong movie. Companies need to think forward. Not backward.

I think it's obvious!

The Towering Inferno!

Sorry couldn't help myself.

Anyway like Soulquarian said, how about Transformers, an Optimus Vs Megatron scene would be awesome.

I hope they expand the show area for whatever the new attraction is, with the video vault being gone, the park has a lot of room to work with.
