What to do in Montreal?

Hello all -
I am going to visit family in Vermont at the end of July, and they live only 2 hours from Montreal, so I thought that my cousin and I would take a trip up there. The problem is, I am having trouble figuring out what to do - I have been trying to navigate some websites but am not getting very far. So I am hoping that some of you fellow MiceChatters have been there and can give me some good ideas of what to do. I don't have a ton of money and I am 28, if either of those two pieces of information matter.
Thanks!

Have a smoked meat sandwich at http://www.schwartzsdeli.com/

Eat some poutine

There's a fun six-flags park if you're into big coasters: http://www.laronde.com/larondefr/

Well, I like music and entertainment, but I am also interested in just seeing cool parts of the city and things. I don't really have anything in particular in mind, I was just wondering what there is that I can see.

Re: What to do in Montreal?

It's July...the Montreal International Jazz Festival will be going on until July 6. There's also the International Fireworks Competition each week-end. The Festival Juste Pour Rire (Just for Laughs festival) might still be going on, too.

Boulevard Saint-Laurent (aka The Main) is good to get a good run-down of the neighbourhoods.

If you want to see real Montreal and where the locals live, take a walk around the Plateau neighbourhood.

You could also go to La Ronde.

Go to La Banquise for Poutine! Try the Classical Poutine and the Poutine Galvaude!

Schwartz's Deli on St. Laurent has the best smoked meat in the city. Go to St-Viateur for the best bagels in the world, bar none.

It's good to spend a half-day walking around in Old Montreal, if only just to see the Chapelle Notre-Dame des Bonsecours.

Take the Metro and explore the Underground City, and don't worry about getting lost. Just enjoy it, LOL!

Have fun in Montreal!
