Hotel New York

As you probably could guess, we have stayed in all the DLP hotels over the last 16 years and the HNY always was the best.

But I was shocked. We got less than a Holiday Inn for a Ritz Carlton rate.

- Check in was confused with queue jumping (rare in past)
- Bathtub tiles were moldy
- we were charged for minibar which we did not use (they rectified)
- Cleaning complaint every day
- Breakfast was ok
- They have reduced the number of characters they used to have
- The room service menu was greatly reduced with 2 items on it after 11pm!!!!! (used to be more)
- No turn down service any longer
- The one thing that really annoyed me was we had to fetch our own bags - despite them coming up to the room to get them (bell services used to sort it all for you - no help getting the bags to the car.)
- Manhatten restaurant closed and Parkside ruined as a stupid buffet.
- The refurb of the suite across from us started banging at 7am (thankfully we were already up for EMH, but I thought that was pretty poor to start so early)

We chose the HNY to have a nice service hotel to help with kids - room service, bell services, location etc.

The HNY has gone from being one of my favoured hotels in the world, to being a very disappointing experience. The park was awesome, best experience we have had since opening day. However, the hotel was one of the most disappointing experiences we have had at DLP. Not great.

Some very good points however -

- we had a castle view which was great for watching the fireworks from our room.
- the pool was excellent and they provide free water wings for kids (that is excellent)
- the breakfast was a good standard
- location is good, but that is a moot point as we park there often as Dream pass holders.

I am really sad because the Hotel New York used to be great, but now, not so much. It really is sad.

Re: Hotel New York

Out of curiosity, what rate did you get for the HNY?

Re: Hotel New York

Hmmmm, if memory serves I paid $1600 for 5 nights with a 10% AP discount, inc. breakfast, excluding passes. Typically the HNY is cheaper than an Admiral's Floor room at the NBC.

Re: Hotel New York

I usually go for the Disneyland Hotel, but the rates are getting quite insane now. I remember paying less than $400 at one point for a standard room. Since then, rates have nearly doubled- partly due to the exchange rate (and I'm sure this goes for the other Disney hotels on property)! It's just not a good value for me anymore, especially considering what I can get at other deluxe Disney hotels for that price.

Re: Hotel New York

It is getting crazy. We are far happier at our Marriott Villa, but they were fully booked last week, so we had to settle for the HNY, and I am not prepared to pay the currently crazy prices for the DLH

Re: Hotel New York

I stayed there in Newport Bay Club twice. The best thing is, it is located on the shores of Lake Disney and it takes 15 minutes walk to reach theme park gate. Although the hotel has a classical building, but the management failed to improve the facilities. Admiral floor is better little better that offers some extra services like private reception desk, breakfast in your room etc.

Here is a big exterior section and also a beautiful inside pool and overpass with a ship feature. For eating at Newport Bay Club there is Cape Cod & Yacht club both of which serve good food.

Re: Hotel New York

It is not as much bad as you are mentioning. I never faced any problem...have to fetch our bags himself to our cars.

John
That is your experience and I mentioned mine. The Hotel New York used to have full bell services. We opted for the HNY because of the bell services and pool (we already had APs that allow for EMH). Also they used to have 3-5 characters around the general hotel. As well as turn down service and fresh flowers in the room.

Now that the Empire State Club has opened, they have reduced the service to everyone else in addition to adding the lounge, characters, and fast passes for the ESC.

As a result, we are unlikely to stay there again.

Also about the NBC, there are not enough lifts in good working order to service the resort, and the service is quite poor for the money.

I have stayed in every DLP hotel many times, most WDW hotels and all of the DLR hotels. Also I travel extensively for work and have done for the last 12 years.

I felt ripped off at the HNY - it was equal to a Holiday Inn experience, with the rooms not in as good a shape.

it was cold and windy yesterday (100mph gusts along the Sierra crests). i haven't been outside since i got to work at 6pm last night, so no clue what's going on now, lol.

other than that, Reno completely embarrased itself by having not only NO fireworks downtown for New Years Eve...but also didn't have any sort of countdown, so the few thousand of us outside had to rely on our cell phones to see if it was midnight yet...ugh....

Reno now has 2 phrases i use to describe it:

The Ghetto Vegas
and
So close to hell you can see Sparks

Lol. that's a shame. I spent many a New Years either at Tahoe or Reno as a boy.
