Re: DLR Hidden Mickey Thread

Just returned from a trip to DL for a week! I made off just TODAY with 4 of the Villains with their pets pins. I lucked out today but the rest of the time there, I didn't get ONE of them!
These are the ones I DID get:

Pin Pics: View Pin 73301

Pin Pics: View Pin 73305

Pin Pics: View Pin 73306

Pin Pics: View Pin 73307

Also got these 2 Capt Hooks:

Pin Pics: View Pin 41819

Pin Pics: View Pin 57990

(And, Ursula that is in the hidden Mickey set with that last Capt Hook)

Pin Pics: View Pin 57446 (LOVE that one!)

I got two of the silouette pins too, in trade, that I had said I didn't like when I saw them online. They are SUPER cute in person! I wish I could have found more.

Got these two:

Pin Pics: View Pin 59271

Pin Pics: View Pin 69751

Of course, those two are from different sets, so, I will try to trade them off.

Also, got these two which are super cute and I may want all of these!

Pin Pics: View Pin 66618

Pin Pics: View Pin 66616

Got one from the Chess Collection. Only one though. Rats! But, Capt Hook is a favorite of ours, so, it was a winner.

Pin Pics: View Pin 67486

This one is the BEST one for me. I have been a stepmom for 23 years and found this, quite by accident. Didn't even know it existed.

Pin Pics: View Pin 51762

Sorry this is so long, but, those are the honorable mentions in my trading. Not a lot of luck in getting full sets, but, fun nonetheless. If anyone needs the Tigger or Chip, let me know.

Re: DLR Hidden Mickey Thread

I've seen the princess teacups online. I am excited to look for them on my next trip next weekend.

Thanks for the info!

I am frustrated however that scrappers of these pins have already been seen in the parks. It makes it harder to get a hold of the authentic ones.

That is frustrating! I am not sure if I would know what to look for to tell the difference between the scrapper and the authentic. I look for the copyright on the back and stuff.

I think it's hard to tell unless you've done it for a long time.

It is very hard to tell. Some are easier than others. Unfortunately the copyright is not always the way.

Here are a couple examples of scrappers that I have had.

As you can see the copyright matches the authentic pin. I posted this pin online and got an opinion from a few hardcore pin collectors. They noted differences in the ropes and the stars. There were also significant divits in the paint. You can see one above the rope over Donald's bill.

Here is another I got. I first got the scalper off an ebay seller who still sells them, and says they do not sell scrappers. They have a really good rating. The second I got off a trusted pin trader. From the front is is not easy to tell.

But from the back it is easy. The cheap metal of the one on the right makes the scrapper easy to see.

Another thing to consider is that scrappers do tend to have a Gasoline-like smell, especially the cheaply made ones. So if you are inspecting a pin and notice it has that kind of smell, I would put it back. Not that I would go around smelling pins. And not all scrappers have that smell either.

Re: DLR Hidden Mickey Thread

Wonder what profit is to be gained by spending so much money to make these fakes? It blows my mind!

It really doesn't cost that much, because usually its the same factory that made the originals for Disney. They just put cheaper materials into the die they already have.

Re: DLR Hidden Mickey Thread

Also on the 2008 HM collections from DLR, the scrappers normally have a single "nub" next to the post (like the donald military on posted above) where as the authentic pins have the two nubs like the current HM pins. This is only true of the 2008 sets, because that is the year Disney changed, and the scrappers didn't catch on right away.

The best thing for current pins is to look for the "shine" of the outer coat (this is a common thing left off of scrappers to save money) and the dimples in the paint. Also, scrappers will be thinner than the authentic pins. Unfortunately you need a known authentic pin for comparison.

Re: DLR Hidden Mickey Thread

According to what was shown earlier in the year at a Pin Trading Night, they are suppose to be the seven dwarfs as jack-in-the-boxes (as this is the last set seen that has not been released). I'll let you know at the beginning of the month.

I love the idea of Seven Dwarfs, but, as jack in the boxes?

Let me know when you find them!!!
