Re: Camp Pin E Ha Ha-Anyone Going?

Cool! Oh, It would be REALLY neat IF they
had a Humphrey Bear meet and greet, as Humphrey
IS prominently featured in the logo for this event!
and that Humphrey is featured in the opening
segment for the original Mickey Mouse Club!

Re: Camp Pin E Ha Ha-Anyone Going?

Yeah, it is bizarre that they would choose a "Camping out" theme
for this event. Good Grief they have the changes going on Tom
Sawyer Island, and Nemo Subs would have been a MUCH bigger draw!

You really have to wonder why event services is so out of touch
with the MUCH bigger projects that would certainly bring more people.
They had special events for Tower of Terror and Bug's Land ~
CERTAINLY the Subs would have been much more Worthy of a
    Special event!

    Well, how was this?
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Re: Camp Pin E Ha Ha-Anyone Going?

Just got back from DL late last night (actually early this am)

Overall, the event went fairly well. I did go with the
"El cheapo" ticket, which really wasn't very cheap, especially
for one that was really a "Pin" based event. I do have a few
pins from over the years, but never really considered myself
an addict. (But they do say admitting it is the 1st step. So,
"Hi, my name is Aladdin, and I'm a pin trader")

Check in began at 12 noon on Saturday June 16th.
Made my way to the DL hotel ballroom about 1pm.
Picked up the registration package and the event gift,
which was a Camp-Pin-e-ha-ha Survival kit, a box with
small flashlight with the event logo, a camping mug, made of
metal, but painted in a nice blue color, with the event logo in
white. There was also a package of hot chocolate mix included,
as well as a limited edition pin. The registration pack included
the event landyard (with tabs for various events and activities)
welcome letter from Ranger J. Audubon Folklore, an of course
merchandise pick up form and selection form to purchase additional
    items.

A photo op of a "campsite" was ready for all the "campers"
to have your picture taken. Pictures only took about 30 to 60
minutes to be printed, right at the site. They were placed in
    a paper display folder.

There was a display case with a variety of pins group together
for a silent auction. Some HM pins, one of the full sets of the
HMH pins, one set of the HMH "stretching" pictures, some of these
were pins were artist proofs. (none of the groups interested me, as
I have several pins from some of the previous HMH events)

So, it was on to the merchandise room, to pick up the merchadise
that we had purchased thru their standard prepurchase Random
Selection Process. I viewed the merchandise cases 1st. The event
T-Shirt was my favorite Item, as it features Humphrey Bear.
The jean jacket looked nice, too, but it didn't have Humphrey, so
I passed on that. However, I did preselect a set of 5 pins that came
with an event bandana, the event pin (which I had signed by the
artist ~ who was available for signed the pin), one other Humphrey
Bear Pin. I also decided to purchase the event lanyard and medallion.
(for a pin event, you really would think those would be part of the
    welcome gift).

The lines for all these areas were short, so it went rather quick.

The room next door was set up for pin trading, which I didn't check
    out.

As with most merchandise events, they seldom run without some sort of
problem. And unfortunately, this event was no exception. One of the
pieces of merchandise, which was advertised on the Merchandise Page
and part of the Random Selection Process, (which determines who is allowed to purchase the event merchandise.) was not actually even
produced. About a month prior, I was told that I would be allowed to purchase the event backpack with Humphrey Bear , which I had requested. They told me when my card would be charged.

Unfortunately, only 7 days before the event, I was sent an email saying
the backpack would not be available at the event. At other events,
it occurred sometimes that merchandise would not be ready for the event,
but that It would be shipped to us (with no shipping cost, to us, when it
    comes in.)

Curiously, this letter stopped short of giving me specifics, so I emailed back, if it is scheduled to be mailed when it did arrive. They responded
back that this item would not actually be produced at all! With so little
merchandise for this event in the 1st place, and even less with the main mascot of the event of Humphrey (which was the "poster child" for
this event, and was to be on the backpack). This was certainly not welcome news. Especially consdering That they had already confirmed
    me to purchase this.

I have never had this happen where Disney failed
to even produce an item that they advertised on the merchandise selection form. Then, they weren't even honest and upfront about letting
me know that the backpack would not even be produced. This is certainly an all time LOW in merchandising events. Cancelling merchandise AT that
late a date is absolutely unacceptable. You Don't cancel merchandise, after making it part of the event and they even confirming that it would be
sold to me through their own selection process.

I just leave this as a warning to anyone who is considering
attending any Disney Merchandise Event in the future. Disney
doesn't always keep their promises. This was a rather disappointing
start to the event, before it event even began.

This was certainly brought to the attention of people running the event.
They said they had problems with their vendor on this item. BUT
really, it's plain and simple that Disney didn't keep their word on what
merchandise would be available. I would have accepted the item, even
if it was late in arriving. They certainly are not following their own
    precedent for previous similar situations.

OK, with that disclosure, the event continues, .... but will post
    more tomorrow.

Re: Camp Pin E Ha Ha-Anyone Going?

OK, Finally the main part of the report:

    As already mentioned :

June 16th (All events on June 16th were in the DL Hotel Ballroom area)

NooN - 7pm Event Registration; Merchandise Pick up,
    Event Store; Photo Opportunity

Noon - 5:30pm - Camp out and trade pins

    2:30pm - 5:30pm - Silent Auction

    3pm - 5pm - Artist Signing with Jeff Granito
(logo pin only, limit two signed per guest)

    7:30pm - 9 pm - Welcome Reception

They had a couple of tables set up with orange punch
and trays of surgar cookies in the shape of bears, of
    course!

There were also two tables for building a sundae, the
servers would scoop your choice of Vanilla, Chocolate,
Strawberry, or Bannana. Several different toppings were
available, including Strawberries, sprinkles, carmel, hot fudge,
    sliced almonds, whipped cream.

Ranger Woodlore then introduced us to 4 different camp
leaders, one for each the the 4 different colored lanyards,
which divided the group into equal sized groups.

He also taught us the Camp Cheer:

    Ha ha, Ha ha
    Ha ha, Ha Ha

And it is worth noting that, yes, the
Ranger did have his rather high pitch
voice, which made it fun to listen to
him say "Camp pin e HA HA"

JUNE 17 Entrance to DL, Festival Arena

7:00 am We Meet at the entrance to DL where
the Ranger and the camp leader meet us. We
enter dl, and as we pass some of the "off hour"
vehicle near the hub and the entrance to TL,
Ranger Woodlore points out these seldom seen
creatures, which are know to be dangerous, so
we need to stay clear of them.

Ranger W then pauses, to inform us that several
are lagging behind, and that we need an energy
boost, on Space Mt. We get ready to line up,
and at 8am they are ready to have us board.

As we complete our flight, the camp leaders tell
us to proceed to Festival Arena. I was among the
first group of campers out of Space Mt. And several
of the campers took a few extra excursions along the
way to Festival Arena. Several explorers were tempted
by an under sea exploration, others found a need to
explore Wonderland, and take a spin on a tea cup, as
there was no line for either!

Upon arrival to the campground at Festival Arena, we earned
out 1st badge (pin) for hiking. Breakfast (lite Continental Breakfast)
of Fresh fruit, bagels, danish, oj, was waiting for us.

Around the perimeter of the arena, there were several different
pin trading stations, with different pin trading game, (trade a pin
out of one of eight pots, pick a pin out of a sleeping bag, traditional
pin trading boards, etc.) The camp also had many tables for all
the pin traders to show off their tradables. This was available
    until late afternoon.

Also there were 4 different camping activities, for which we
could earn additional "badges" (pins). There was "arts and
crafts", "fishing" - magnetic fish and rod, tossing camping
gear into a backpack, and birdwatching - where we track down
more than a dozen Disney animated birds.

More to report - including some special guests,
Lunch, and the final campfire meet
(a few of the special guests can be seen in my Avatar)

Re: Camp Pin E Ha Ha-Anyone Going?

Thanks for the review Aladdin, I am not a big pin person (though I have collected some over the years that I liked) but I thought this event sounded like fun. Thought it was pretty cool that the theme featured Humprey and Ranger Woodlore too, I loved those cartoons when I was a kid, and it seemed like those characters were pretty much forgotten about in recent years. Do you have any pictures to post from this event and was Humphrey there too?

Re: Camp Pin E Ha Ha-Anyone Going?

I still have to report the last part, But "YES!"
The ranger was there. He was pretty much our
host, and around during ALL the events. On
Sunday morning, they did have 2 of the Country
Bear characters walking around for a short period
    of time.

And on Sunday evening, they had 4 of the Country
Bears doing the "Bump"!!!! Unfortunately, Humphrey
was a no show. I specifically asked the Ranger,
and he said that Humphrey had made too much of
a mess before the event, so that he was not allowed
    to attend.

My current Avatar is a pic of the Ranger with 4 of the
Country Bears!!!!!!! I do have some more pics from the
event, (but I'm not as quick to download) I will try to
at least get a link to some of the best picks.

In the meantime, I did see that at DIZPINS.COM
click on Camp Pin-e-ha-ha (toward the top, on the left side),
and someone does have over 70 pics at their site.

overall, It was fun, and pretty well put together, with
the exception of the backpack being cancelled. Personally,
I would have preferred if they would have had all the events
on Saturday. so what if one desert would have been skipped,
lower the price a little. An Afternoon and evening event
would have been sufficient. Plus it seemed a little strange to
have a campfire get together before the sun went down.
Sunday at 6pm just was to late at the end of the weekend
for many people, and a lot of people ending up skipping that
part of the event, which was really the highlight of the event.

Thanks for the info about Dizpins.com I will check that out now.

Too bad no Humphrey though, I would have liked to seen a live version of him. At least you had the Ranger as your guide, that is the first time I know of that he has been a park character.

Sorry i wasn't paying attention to the pic in your avatar before (i usually don't notice them anyways) I also block signature lines too

The T-shirts with Humphrey and the Ranger were being sold in the
Frontierland Store right next to all the pins.

I've seen a lot of the event stuff at Silver Spur - pins, shirts, hats, and I can't remember if I saw a pin bag.
