Exclamation Possible Counterfeit "year of a million dreams"

    FYI everyone.

Last year my girlfriend and I each received a "year of a million dreams" lanyard, each with two pins, one Mickey and Minnie, and one Donald and Goofy.

One of my girlfriends pins was lost while riding Space Mountain last week and I immediately gave her one of mine, figuring I could find one on ebay.

Well, I did end up finding a replacement on ebay and it arrived today - but something isn't right with it. It's much lighter and thiner than the originals we have. The font around the inside of the circle is smaller. Perhaps more importantly, there are flaws in the metal on the back of the pin. The flaws look to be left over from manufacturing. I've never seen a Disney pin with flaws on the back like this. Anyhow, I only paid $2.50 for it, so it's not worth returning it and asking for a refund...

Here is the specific pin from pinpics.com

Re: Possible Counterfeit "year of a million dreams"

Are you sure that it's not a poorly made fake?
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I was reading an article on pin trading somewhere on the web and they talked about how the companies that make the pins for Disney will sometimes get to keep the molds. Then they make unauthorized copies out of inferior materials that they sell for cheap.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised. There are soooo many fakes out there it is ridiculous. It's really sad that when you trade for a pin you have no idea whether it's fake or not. These are commonly referred to as "scrappers."
