(CNN) -- Early reports suggest a lone tourist accidentally fell into the Shark Encounter tank at Sea World San Diego and died as a result of a shark attack. An attempt to save the man's life was made by what could possibly been the victim's friends.
"One of the would-be rescuers, dressed in light blue and wearing a red toque pulled out a Glock and started shooting the shark that was involved in the attack in hopes of stopping it." A representative of the park stated.
Asked about how the rescuer managed to bring a Glock past security into the park, the representative replied, "That is a complete mystery to me and will be investigated further."
On-lookers were horrified at the scene unfolding in front of them. "There was a lot of splashing and a lot of shouting and commotion 'Esteban! Esteban!' was what the rescuer was yelling while trying to shoot the shark involved in the attack.
Another visiting tourist who witnessed the horrific event noticed another individual helping in the rescue effort, "Another gentleman wearing blue shorts made his way into the scene. At first he asked if Esteban was bitten but the response of the rescuer was that he was eaten! The man in blue shorts then hurled a scuba tank into the water in hopes of saving the victim.”
The would-be rescuer has been transported to hospital and has been treated for shock and crazy eye.
The Shark Encounter exhibit has been closed until further notice. A full investigation into this horrific accident will be conducted as soon as next of kin is notified.
