Didn't Seaworld buy out a similar park years ago and then close it down? Why did they do that instead of moving their operation or something similar? or was the land situation the same?


and bleh sounds like San Diego is a terrible place to build parks then, I'm surprised Legoland built there except I suppose it's a decent strategy to be inbetween Disney and Seaworld

You're probably thinking of SeaWorld Ohio, which opened in 1970. They sold the park to Six Flags who later sold it to Cedar Fair, who tore it down and built Wildwater Kingdom.

And this attraction is part of the park's Master Plan which was approved by the City, and thus shouldn't face a lot of flack. I think the bigger hurdle will be getting the capital to do it properly.

They actually use the old MarineLand property for a lot of filming. I know at least 1 of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies used that location.

I wouldn't worry to much about Donna Frye, her relationship with SeaWorld is no where near as bad as what it was when JTA was being built. She has been to a lot of recent events that SeaWorld has thrown and mentions how much she loves the park. We just had a ribbon cutting for the new expansion of the bicycle route that goes around mission bay and SeaWorld, Our GM was also present since seaworld footed the bill for the expansion and she gave him a big ol hug. Very interesting to see.

I think they used it for some of the underwater stuff. But I am not sure.

Another huge scale roller coaster in Mission Bay. I work on the other side in Belmont Park home of the historic Giant Dipper Roller Coaster. Looks like we will see a rivalry against the two coasters. Will it have a loop?

I wouldn't think so, if it's like Mummy. But who knows. My guess would be no though. It's not like the other Sea World parks that have more than one coaster and can go with more thrills.

Plus with the height limit, it'd be kind of hard to put a loop in.

I don't understand this height limit. If there was a height limit restriction, how could they have built Journey to Atlantis which is the same height as Florida's?

That's exactly what I was thinking! Considering the letdown that Journey to Atlantis was for me, I hope this is better than ROTM and actually has some theme that actually works. And I hope they get better audio than Atlantis did... can't understand anything! Fun ride, but it's missing a lot.

I know budgets play a huge part in making rides, but I just wish the parks would just get the ride done right the first time, and actually get park-goers excited to want to go on a ride multiple times.

yep, as it stands I think that Shipwreck has MUCH superior theming then Atlantis, heck Shipweck feels like a whole LAND is themed to it too and not just oddly segmented in

This coaster is also supposed to go through "underwater areas" where you see animals through windows, and they'll be having some more animals in the area, more stingrays to be specific, and probably other types of fish as well.

I'm sorry you guys were talking about this a few days ago but yes, they did use the Marineland area for many filmings of major movies (including Pirates) and some tv shows (including Fear Factor).

However, now a days, it is now a large construction site. A large resort called the Terranea Resort is being built by Destination Hotels & Resorts. The hotel, as well as the many timeshare villas, will have amazing views of the Pacific Ocean including a view of Catalina Island. The resort also will have a 25,000-square-foot spa facility, many different pools, and an executive golf course. It looks like it's going to be a great resort destination and only 50 minutes to Disneyland and about 2 hours to Seaworld (I had to mention because that's what this thread is about).

Also, when this site was Marineland, the two famous killer whales were Corky and Orky. When Seaworld bought the park, they moved Corky and Orky to San Diego. Orky eventually died unfortunately; however, Corky still lives to this day, at approximately 40 years old. She is more commenly known by her stage name, Shamu.
