Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle

Found this online a while back and can't seem to retrace the site where it was located to credit the designers.
Could it be a leaked Shanghai design? Probably not, but it's a pretty neat concept for a central castle on an isthmus/island.
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
If Shanghai does go with an Islands of Adventure/Disneysea type layout, I really hope they can come up with an innovative way to place the castle in relation to the lagoon.
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
I like the layout but not the design. The design should be evocative of a Disney fairy tale castle, perhaps "Beast"'s castle?
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
I like that castle, it looks like Ariel's castle.

I was thinking that as well, but is the Beast's Castle in the film very iconic? I can't really remember for certain. Also, if the final product presented in Rapunzel reflects its concept art at all, then Disney might have a 21st century franchise that could serve as the centerpiece for its new park. The castle presented in the art looks stunning, but like the Beast's Castle, the execution may be difficult.

A miniature version of Beast's Castle exists at DLP

Something similar will be coming to Magic Kingdom in a couple years.

^but in blue, not brown
I thought Shang was getting a Rapunzel castle?
I like the idea of the Sultan's Palace personally :D

Ariel's castle would be awesome but it's supposed to be under water, right?

Forced perspective and a building the size of Orlando's castle should make the design work.

And? A miniature Cinderella castle exists at Storybookland at Disneyland CA but we have Cinderella Castle in Tokyo and Orlando ;)

That appears to be a sketch of the castle in Rapunzel:

Shanghai may very well end up with this castle, considering the recent trend for animated movie tie-ins, and the fact that the leaked artwork also shows a castle on a waterfront.
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
I hope its thats true.. I would love to see a Rapunzel castle rather than Ariel.
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
I just don't want it to be Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. Something unique would be nice and give me a reason to travel all the way to Shanghai to see this (Hopefully) beautiful park. Maybe it will be something that reflects the Nation that it presides in rather than the European Fantasies we've grown accustomed to?

I agree that this castle should be unique, the three already-used castles have worn themselves a little thin (if I had it my way, every castle would be unique). Also, if built, the Rapunzel Castle would be the first castle as Disney park icon from a movie NOT made by Walt.
Just thought that was interesting.
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
I'd love to see a new castle as well. One of the things that makes Disneyland Paris so special is it's unique castle. I hope Shanghai gets an icon of its very own as well.
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
I would bet 10-1 odds it will have a unique castle (at least to the Asia region).
1. A HKDL clone would make negative associations to their customer base ("it looks the same as that little park in Honk Kong?"). SDL will strive for its own identity.
2. A TDL or HKDL clone could easily be perceived as an unnessary insult to their business partners in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Re: Candidate for Shanghai Disney's Castle
Plus they are going to have trouble differentiating the two parks if they look too much alike. Think of how often we get pictures of Cinderella Castle in an American news article about Disneyland. They match a photo in their collection to the article without worrying if it's the same castle, same monorail, what have you.
I even saw a pic of the Seattle Monorail with the article about the WDW monorail accident.
So if guests see pics of a park that looks like HKDL they might confuse the two.
