Here is Bob Iger and other touring EXPO in Shanghai.
Disney president visits Expo site_latest news_Shanghai World Expo
Bob...hello Bob? Where is Bob in that photo?
"Yeah... I was wondering about that myself. Maybe he's the one standing behind the guy in the far right?
Hah. Yeah, they're a co-sponsor.
Poor Mrs. Clinton had to beg big American CEOs to help fund the building of the USA Pavillion, or it never would have been built at all. I'll tell you this - the building reflects the USA in every way. Cold, sterile, capitalism.
The Pavillion is 4 rooms (at least, for access to the public)...the first 3 all just movies (though I will say that the final one is pretty darn good) and the 4th an area to put up a couple of posters for the sponsors and a giant merchandise area.
Perhaps if it hadn't been done at the last second, Disney could have actually contributed something really exciting regarding the future Shanghai park, as it's going in that general area, if not taking up some of the space where the Expo is now.
Of course, Disney made sure to contribute their own table of Disney products to sell. 2 mugs and a few other small things with the same designs, plus a holographic giant poster, and that's what Disney contributed.
Heck, Disney could have brought in the Hong Kong expansion plans! It would have been so simple - cut and paste from D23! But it was all so last minute...the Imagineers probably couldn't part with that stuff for so long.
Kind of a wasted opportunity.
Take me to Neverland...
Everything at the Expo was done last minute, why should Disney join in any sooner than anyone else?
The US joined in way later than the majority of the other countries.

I'm thinking of visiting the Expo in October. My friend lives and works in Shanghai so I'd visit while visiting him. He said he's heard nothing but bad things about the Expo so far, mainly about the lack of capacity for most of the pavilions and the bad behavior of the crowd. How true is this and how do you think it'll impact plans for SDL?
Based on how poorly behaved most chinese from the mainland are when visiting HKDL, I would believe the negative comments on Expo.
They ARE true, and in fact many. Without doubt Shanghai (actually the whole mainland) is not ready for a Disney park/resort.

Thanks for the links. That guy in the second video was being a jerk though; taking his anger out on some guy with limited English skills. What is seen in the video looks like what my friend has been describing. I also know an Australian girl who is working at the Australian pavilion who has been telling me of some of the problems. I think Disney really needs to look at the lessons learned in their US parks, TDR, DLPR, and HKDL and proceed with caution.
