It's beyond me why they would pin down such an exact opening date. With weather issues, I'd be surprised if that exact date is met.

Which Fantasyland darkrides do you think will be in Fantasyland on opening day? The only Fantasyland ride I've heard will be built in Shanghai is the Snow White rollercoaster. Do you think perhaps the darkrides will be brand new instead of copies, like Hong Kong was supposed to have with a Sleeping Beauty darkride and such?

Disneyland goes ahead

THE construction of Shanghai Disneyland is expected to begin on Friday, said an anonymous government official yesterday who is involved in the project.

The agreement on the project was signed last November. The new theme park will be the first Disneyland on the Chinese mainland and the fourth outside the United States, after Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

The cost for the first phase of the project is expected to amount to 24.5 billion yuan (US$3.74 billion), Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng said on the sidelines of the annual parliamentary session in Beijing in early March.

Earlier reports said that 116 hectares of land has been allocated for the Disneyland project in the Pudong New Area. Two Metro lines will converge at the area.

Alright. It's currently 6am, Friday in Shanghai. In a number of hours the groundbreaking ceremony will be held.

Best case scenario: they will show off a current model & site plan of property/park for the invited media, along with plenty of details and concept art for each area planned as of now (granted everything could change drastically over the next 4 years).

Worst case: No model, no art, very basic description of stuff that has already been heavily-rumored.

I'm keeping my expectations in check, as I can see Disney not wanting to ruffle HKDL's feathers by elaborating too much on a park that will outshine its neighbor, but fingers crossed for some juicy art in the next 12 hours.

In response to the SDL headlines, HKDL has announced that Mystic Manor will now open in 2013 (previously 2014).

Whatever the program is that they use to scatter/blur the image... it is quite effective and very, very annoying. We need one of those image-enhancing programs you see in movies...
