Tron Coaster To Feature Lightcycles, and A High Velocity Launch System

If the indoor Tron coaster makes the final budget approval. a high speed launch will jetison Lightcycles into the intereactive virtual grid of good vs. evil via a Vekoma Motobike trsnsport system. Odds are, DLR will likely get a similar ride, At both Shanghai and Anaheim, it would be extremely trippy plowing thru the cybor portal, ready to do battle! The layout is said to give one a riveting experience minus inversions.

Vekoma likely offered Disney a better deal and/or the mouse may have liked the company's engineering ideas better.

Don't know what you mean by "just be", Aladdin, although I believe you are correct that the Shanghai TRON coaster would be an anchor center piece attraction that would replace the traditional Tomorrowland Space Mountain. I don't attribute this to a Shanghai management dislike for SP. They simply desire to be as different as possible....and are not afraid to take risks in doing so.

From what I've heard, plans are in the works for a TRON ride at DL's Tomorrowland. I believe DLR showed the interest in the notion to the Glendale/Burbank suits first. Shanghai is...well....trying to Shanghai it as they have seen the success of DCA's ElecTRONica, and the relative success of Tron movies and merchandise, while realizing the potential for tremendous growth of the franchise and the potential related popularity of theme park attractions that are based on the brand.

It was during the tenure of Matt Ouimet that Intamin made their feelings public, in part because Disney tried to hoist some of the responsibility for the accident on them.

Then, Disney dug their own grave. It also sounds like this is another reason that WDC (I believe) unfairly rolled over on Matt. I sure hope that Iger and other changed management will eventually be able to woo Intamin back for future projects. If nothing else, it would seem to me like economics would play a role in swinging the company back.

There were rumors on other boards this was proposed for WDW and Shanghai. However, as usual, it seems TDO might have backed out for now. Guess we won't know until announced (hopefully at the Expo)

There's room in the motorboat cruise area and elswhere in Tomorrowland. In addition, backstage area could be dedicated as part of the Tron ride area. Many of the things backstage could be relocated elsewhere in Anaheim.

You are correct that the PM track area could be fixed (it would more like be replaced) and used for the Tron ride. However, the rumor is that Tron will be an indoor ride. It's possible that the Innoventions building could be used to house part of the attraction, but it and the PM track area may both be incorporated into a different attraction (possibly WALL-E).

TDO backing out would be a good thing, as the first rumor placed a Tron ride atm Disneyland's Tomorrowland. It would be a rather lame anticlimax to think that the successful extension of ElecTRONica was a warm-up for WDW to be rewarded with an eticket attraction instead of Disneyland Resort. Doubt that's going to happen.

The attraction would be themed to Tron: Legacy. I agree the sequel is far more visually stunning - and better written as well. I should have stated that in the first place, instead of referring to the ride in the generic franchise sense. Glad you're as wild about Legacy and it's potential spin-off ride as I am, Soul_Meets>Body!
