    SFOG & Goliath

Well basically my plans to visit Disney this weekend fell through as their are no hotel rooms left ( ) so I was wondering, any of you in the know about SFoG know if Goliath is going to open for sure on Saturday? Has the testing and everything gone well so it will?

I'm not really going to look a free weekend off in the mouth...

I know it's been testing, whether it will be open or not is anybody's guess.

The official site says it will be open on the 1st.

And the Canyon Blaster was supposed to be open in May and Deja Vu is the most reliable of the trio.

I thought about going but decided to wait until I was sure it was running and had a pass.

When we were there last year we missed Deja Vu being open by a week.

I've been on the one at SFMM and I love the ride, but your right, too unreliable.

I don't get Deja Vu. Seems like a simple concept...they just can't get it to work. Double hit against Vekoma since Six Flags bought like four of the same (failure) system from them all in one year.

    ^ 3 ... but whose counting ...

SFMM, SFOG and SFGAm (Six Flags Great America near Chicago).

They have all had problems but SFMM's seems to be the most consistent these days.

No, four. There's one in Spain, Stunt Fall, at Parque Warner Madrid, formerly Warner Bros. Movie World Madrid. And the Movie World chain was apart of Six Flag's European eneterprises.

The contraption isn't really all that simple. In order to properly function the big thing is that the lifts have to catch the train. There are a bunch small lasers and sensors that calculate and adjust the two lifts for each run. What's really sad though is that Six Flags Over Georgia has invested quite a bit into its Deja Vu and it is considered the most reliable.

I figured there was more to it...but it looks so similar to old Boomerang coasters that I have to wonder what the new system does that a boomerang's system doesn't (they have boomerangs that catch you and lift you to the hill's top).

    Re: SFOG & Goliath

I believe this is the reason:

A normal boomerang and a normal inverted boomerang have liff hills that use chain lifts. The train just catchs a moving chain lift on the hills and then goes the rest of the way up. A giant inverted boomerang (Deja VU, Stunt Fall) does not use chain lifts, but cable system where a car catches the train and moves it up the lift. A chain cannot be used on a giant inverted boomerang because the lifts are vertical. By being placed vertically a lot more stress would be placed on the chains.

    ^ Agreed.

Deja Vu is a prototype and it's a Vekoma. Two things working against it.

Well Everest works fine, that makes me happy.

So Goliath had some of its first riders yesterday at Media Day. Supposed to have some more tonight at whatever concert they are throwing.

    Re: SFOG & Goliath

I headed to the park today for a couple of hours in between classes. I was able to hop on Goliath twice. The place wasn't very busy, but we had some nasty storms this morning and have been under a tornado watch all day.

    The Good:
    Goliath is a lot fun.
    Employees look sharp.
    New parking marquee.
Signs up about possible rain and no refunds policy.
    Characters out.
    Active custodial crew.

    The Bad:
    Another switchback queue for Goliath.
Goliath exit gives beautiful view backstage.
Ugly brown lake up front under Goliath.
Some guy named John checking lap bars at Goliath with a thing a against men.
