Well, the name anyway...
Welcome Six Flags, Discovery Kingdom.
The "new direction" of the Park will concentrate on three "theme's".

I really hope that this direction will be a cleaner one! I used to love Marine World as a kid but the last 7 years or so it's just gotten so dirty and icky.

Its been many years since I have been to Marineland. I really like the park. This is a interesting change. I hope it will lead to bigger and better things for the park.
this announcement is like when Disney will announce Midway Mania.
Haven't been in a few years, but I liked the back of the park, so I hope they can carry some of that over to the ride part of the park.
"Tonight I wash my hands of you
You set the bar I could not live up to
Tonight the light is breaking through
So thank you very little and send me postcards from hell"

I keep hearing inklings of this everywhere, but I have yet to hear any announcement, which is odd. I live in Vallejo, where Marine World is. Six Flags does not own the park, the city of Vallejo owns it. They just let Six Flags manage it. The fact this has not been brought up at all by our local newspaper is odd, you'd think Six Flags would have to get the permission of the city to change the name, especially when the name affects a street in the town with many businesses on it, as well as the Solano County Fairgrounds. Six Flags supposedly has an announcement on Monday, which will probably be this name change.
But why? The name has been part of the park for at least 30 years, before it was even in Vallejo, why change it now? The park isn't that great, it's been going down hill since Premier (and then Six Flags) took over it. Do they just want to destroy it's past, so people don't go to Marine World with ideas of how it used to be, expecting, you know, an animal park, and not some tiny chinsey Six Flags when the better Great America is only an hour's drive away?
Anyway, I haven't been there in at least 5 years, probably more, and won't be going back anytime soon unless someone offers me free tickets or something
EDIT: I eat my words. Local paper just published something about it today. Six Flags won't confirm it, but the President and CEO is coming on Wednesday probably to do just that.

^ Yep, press conference next week. They have been cleaning up and clearing out the two rotting coasters that were sitting in the parking lot in anticipation of the conference.

Currently raising funds for the AMAZING Give Kids The World for their annual Coasting for Kids event. Any amount would go a long way in helping a family enjoy an amazing Orlando vacation. You can donate on my page.
I cant wait to see the new sign. Better name than marine world.
Wow...too bad they can't manage it good. Being a former supervisor for sister park Waterworld Concord...lets just say that they are really pulling all strings to keep running
Well Secluded, I see all!!!

One is Zonga that went up for a year, barely was running, then they finally disassemmbled it and left the parts in the parking lot. Dunno what the other is, maybe parts to Vertical Velocity which the city made them change.
There was a strange thing that article I posted that my dad pointed out. It talked of Six Flags selling those other parks (including Waterworld, which I was hoping that once they sold they tore down) and that Marine World is safe and Six Flags is planning on hanging on. How can they sell it? Last time I checked you can't sell things you don't own :/
You definitely have a point, but I think it established at least a little history here in V-Town, during it's early era up until the fall right before giving management over to Premier
This is a good sign. Focus on 3 themes, try to unite the park. Especialy if it is one of the few that can have a good long operating season.
I'd like to see some master plans for this though to see if they have anything in mind for the future (its Six Flags after all) but it could work out very nice.
Edit Zonga is coming out and I forget the name of it, the other was the clone of Greesed Lightning in SFKK, the trains and some parts are being sent to SFKK as spare parts. An old Swartz. shuttle launch.
