Question Tropicana vs. Candy Cane Inn

    From the Lagoon of Liquidspaceman...
My family and I are finally making it back to Disneyland after being away for
seven years! We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn at that time. We have no complaints whatsoever; including the Continental Breakfast. We even bought our park tickets there. (They were cheaper than AAA's prices). I see that the Tropicana is right across the street from the main gate (cross walk). It looks closer for those of us who would be walking to the park. Is that true? And more importantly, how does the Continental Breakfast compare to the Candy Cane Inn?

It's been roughly 15 years or so since I stayed at Tropicana. The experience wasn't all that great. (Hence why it's been so long since I stayed there.) I've stayed multiple times at Candy Cane Inn and found it amazing. Their continental breakfast is MUCH better than Tropicana's. Plus, you can sit by the pool and enjoy the weather while you eat your bowl of cereal or peel your banana.

I stayed at the Tropicana twice. It was fine for the type of hotel it is. I prefer hotels with interior halls and not exterior stairs and walkways. The room was clean, quiet and yes it's right across the street from disneyland. It was very convenient.

I never partake in the continental style breakfasts at any hotel, so I can't really comment on that part.

Thank you Quacky4Donald and SCUBAbe for your input.
It looks like we are leaning towards The Candy Cane Inn. I personally prefer the open air hallways. Fresh air, even if it's LA air.
We had no complaints on the breakfast seven years ago, so I'm hoping it is the same, or even better!

honestly i will never stay at the tropicana again. the staff was horribly rude and the room smelled like sewer gas. i have heard candy cane is nice tho.
Is this haunted room actually stretching?? or is it your imagination?

Candy Cane, cleaner, nicer beds, better breakfast. If your tired at the end of the day they have a shuttle you can take back to the motel

I have never stayed at the Tropicana, but I have had friends who have and they have said it is OK. As for my family we have stayed at the Candy Cane Inn numerous times. The breakfast is fine in the morning, the staff has been courteous and the rooms are great for the price. The fact that they have their own private shuttle bus is a plus. In fact we are staying there on the 22nd of this month for two nights while we attend my youngest daughters baby shower in Ontario.

Candy Cane Inn is what I used on my two trips in '99 and 2000. The breakfast was convenient; and the Shuttle Bus is a big plus. On my scouting trip, I stayed at the Anabella. I walked to the parks, which was fine in the AM, but seemed strangely a much longer, unappealing walk in at the end of the day.

Thank you all for the information!!!
You have confirmed what I was thinking.
The Unofficial Guide, by Bob Sehlinger also
concurred with your answers. I consider this case closed.
Now, I have to look up the old thread talking about where
all the "secret" bathrooms are in the Park.
