Anaheim Main Gate (Red Lion Property)

We 'won' this hotel on Priceline after seeing someone else win it from biddingfortravel.com for $35 we thought we would give this 2* hotel (formerly a 3*) a try. Arriving Friday Feb 22 through Sunday the 24th. I bid $35.00 and won. Total cost was $86.70.

Good news: Very comfy and clean beds. Bath and Body Works products for shampoo/soap. Location could have easily walked, plus Garden Block is a very close. Free parking. Quick check in and out. There is a restaraunt and bar in the lobby area but we did not go into either one. Coffee pot in room. Refrigerators available for a fee. Ironing board and iron in room. Extra pillows in drawers that were higher quality pillows.

    Not so good news:

Carpet stains - it was not dirty as I walked on it my white socks.
Loud air conditioner - I like to have a fan on when sleeping but we could not have it running because it made way too much noise. The one at the end of the hallway also made a lot of noise and I could hear it in the middle of the night.
We were on the 4th floof of the Surf tower which over looks Harbor Blvd. at first I thought this was great as we could see Tower of Terror from our room. What I did not think about is I could also hear all the cars going by at night.
    Small bathroom counter space.
Only one trash can in room. I like to one in the bathroom and main room.
    No jacuzzi.

Red Lion took this hotel over in November 2007 and have been putting a lot of effort into upgrading so I think this place is just going to improve over the next few months. IMO it was at about the same level as the Holiday Inn on Manchester but a lot closer and cheaper.

Thanks for the awesome review. I think that this will really improve in the next year-- weather or not it will stay $35 on Priceline is the question. Hope they put in a jacuzzi lol.

Re: Anaheim Main Gate (Red Lion Property)

We stayed here for 4 nights back in November of 2007. We had quite a nice stay there.

The noise of the air conditioner didn't bother me too much because we sleep with a fan on at night that is really loud.

We booked it through Hotels.com and ended up staying an extra night (we were celebrating our engagement). Couldn't have been happier with the staff and being able to stay another night in the same room.

Thank you very much for the review and pics. I am making my first trip to Disney in September and am staying in this hotel. This seems ideal for me as its just somewhere to lay my head at night rather than spending any quality time in.

    Thanks again.

Just thought I'd add someone just got back from staying there and posted a review on Bidding for travel, they liked it and said there was free parking ;-) They got it for $35 on Priceline also.

We saw lots of people walking back from the parks. The hotel is right around the corner from Anaheim Garden Walk and it appeared that it would be safe as you are on Harbor Blvd and it is well lit.

We were just there 6/7-8 and on Expedia its 40% off because of the renovations. The great part is all they've done right now is close down the separate tower and there's very little work going on at all around the current guest rooms. Get it while its cheap!!
I'm literally a born Disney fan! I was born at Providence St. Joseph Med Center right across the street from Disney Studios in Burbank. The same hospital where Walt died.
