Hotel Recommendations?

Okay, so I get so lost looking at all the hotel options out there. So I ask for the wisdom of the MiceChat community.

Basically, I love staying at the DLH, but can't afford to do so in this economy. So I'm just looking for a nice place close to DL.

-Must must must have a comfy bed. I have a hard enough time sleeping away from my own bed, so I don't need a hard or otherwise uncomfortable mattress.

-Must be close to the park, like walking distance. I just like being close, and my mom doesn't want to worry about me walking long distances back to the hotel room.

-I don't want to sleep with bugs! Or any other type of dirty or smokey unkemptness, so if there's any hotels to steer clear of.....

Also, this isn't one of my requirements, but my mom is really picky about hotels. She thought the Annabella was a dump. So if there are any recommendations for really nice hotels that aren't too expensive.

try bidding for the 3star hotels on priceline. for our last trip we got 2 nights at the Sheraton Park Hotel (1.5 semi long blocks away from entrance). Some of the most comfortable beds we've ever had. Most comfortable has been the Hyatt Regency OC (not within walking distance), which we also stayed at via priceline

the only bummer about both hotels was the charge to park, 14 and 15dollars respectively.

If you don't want to do priceline try the Candy Cane Inn. It is my favaorite place to stay and around $120. Very comfy beds, very clean, right next door to the park(s) but they do have a private shuttle! Great breakfast too- a bit more than the traditional continental breakfast- cereal, yogurt, fruit, danish, that is all I can remember. I also agree about the Sheraton. If your mom thought the Anabella was a dump then I would steer clear of nearly everything very close to DL, Howard Johnson, the Best Westerns, Carousel, International Inn, Fairfield Inn, Alpine Inn. . .

Try to Howar Johnsons or the Anabella (you can get a MC rate for Anabella).

a dump?! where did she stay? We've been going through renovations for a few months now and they remodeled the buildings a year ago

We've stayed at the Annabella twice now and the rooms have been VERY clean both times.

Last time we did see a used bar of soap on the window sill in the shower though. But that's kind of easy to miss when cleaning I think.

Maybe your mom might reconsider if she read all the great reviews of the Anabella here on MC? I've been touting it to everyone I know that is going to DL this year - I keep joking that I should get a travel agent discount! I know we're more than likely staying there in October. The only "not so sure" point is the cost for parking if my in-laws decide to rent a car and the proximity to the park. It is close, but they will have a 2 year old and a 4 year old who both still take naps and go to bed early - so something across the street on Harbor may be easier for them. I'm still pushing for the Anabella though.
