Never had Olive Garden so I wouldn't know what it tastes like, but yeah I agree with you, I like pretty much any Italian restaurant except for Naples.
Olive Garden is like sit down fast food. It's all canned sauces reheated. Everything is pre-made and reheated as ordered.
They do cook the occasional chicken breast, shrimp and steak, but most everything is heat and serve. I used to think it was funny when people thought the bread was fresh made there. It's brown and serve with liquid butter brushed on with what appears to be a paint brush and garlic salt. People seem to enjoy it though. I've had better Italian. That is Americanized Italian.
I only been to the pic a slice section. First time it was great and then we came back next year, worst pizza I had in my life. Basically was just cheese with pepperoni put on it. Haven't been back.
The buy the slice side is bad...ironically, the custom ordered pizza side is pretty good. I know a lot of people bash this place but I really think the pizza is decent. Nice thin crust with a bit of a crunch, zesty sauce, fresh cheese and toppings, overall very good.
