It was a great experience.

Now, as a fine dining establishment, we go every winter to Yosemite for a week and stay at the Ahwahnee. Their dining room is rated as one of the best in the world. I think Napa Rose is easily on par with that.
Have you ever gone to the Bracebridge Dinner? I was lucky enough as a kid and teen growing up that my grandmothers family had a cabin in Yosemite and my grandmother took her grand kids every year. Given the number of grand kids she had, normally you only got to go every three years, but not all my cousins could go or wanted to go so I got more than my fair share. I still miss the experience. I haven't done it in over 20 years now probably, maybe more.

In my opinion, NR is pretty good and has impeccable service.

I like the wide open, high ceiling style; it meets the intent which is to provide a airy space. (If you're looking for "intimate", NR isn't that... IMHO, that's not necessarily a mark of a good restaurant).

Not a huge drinker, but their wine list is large and looks comprehensive. And as the name implies, a nice selection of Napa (& Sonoma) wines.

Also (having been there 3 times, roughly 2 years apart), their service and food has been consistent as well.

Their food is definitely at the top in DLR and compares favorably with the better restaurants, BUT it is IMHO a notch below the top restaurants in CA (i.e. French Laundry, Chez Panisse, etc). I really haven't been to any really good places in OC or LA so I can't really compare to those.

However, their service ranks w/ any of them overall.

Unfortunately I have never had the experience of the Bracebridge. Because of family activities we usually drive up there the day of the dinner but don't get in until around 8 or 9, so we just eat in the bar that first night. Let just say, though, that after making that long drive up from LA and rushing to get the car and kids unloaded to make it over to the bar for dinner, just relaxing and unwinding in the bar with a scotch and a sandwich from the bar menu is just as good as the Bracebridge for me.

In all seriousness, though, it is something that I want to get to experience at least once.

I was upset they had no organic wines on that extensive list. I hope that has changed.

It's on the par of a Mortons or Mastros. Pretty good but not great. I have not been impressed with the service. Been their twice...probably won't go back.

    Re: Napa Rose Opinions

For my 1st time EVER! I stopped into Napa Rose on a Wednesday. I sat in the lounge but out on the patio (they have their own patio). It was nice. The wine menu- i was shocked that they had some reasonable priced wines. I had a Mirrasou Chardonnay it was $7.50 a glass. It was very yummy! Overall i was super impressed with the whole menu. I didd not order any food so i cannot comment on that, but i saw what other people were chompin on and it looked so good! In fact i plan on going back this tuesday!

nice! custome cake. wow.. well today is the the day, i go back and test a appetizer, i want the cheese appetizer. I am not sure if i am going to sit outside or inside this time. i really wasn't fond of the "boys club" that was on the patio last time i was at the Napa Rose (lounge/bar side) --maybe there will be a better mix of people this time OR just my luck i am the only one that sits out there!!

My husband and I love the Napa Rose. The food is outstanding. The creativity on the menu with the Vintner's Dinner is unparalleled and the wine selections are thoughtful and well chosen. But the best part of the restaurant are the people. They are warm and lovely and welcoming and very VERY knowledgeable about their food and their wine. My husband and I go as often as we can and we wish we could go more often. Frankly the Napa Rose is the restaurant by which we judge all other restaurants and frankly it is better food than most restaurants -- even the more famous and infamous.

Uh, that's so hard for me to do. I have this awesome Italian place by me where there's no corkage fee.
This is my signature. There are many like it but this one is mine.
