Re: Anaheim GardenWalk Progress Thread

What's good for the resort area is good for Disney! Why else would they allow all the "Good Neighbor Hotels" to still exist and be within walking distance of the main gate?

This is a very good business plan! $60 to bowl two games of bowling or a little bit more to go to Disneyland which is right down the block. That's a hard decision for a conventioneer. And putting a night club in the middle of a family friendly resort is also a sure-fire home run. I mean, it worked for Walt Disney World with Pleasure Island, right?

And theses sorts of expensive "upscale" things are sure going to appeal to people who spent $40 a night on a hotel room at the Little Boy Blue across the street.

There's a reason that places like US 192 in Florida exist. They are cheap stores and restaurants geared toward the families that stay in the area. Even Downtown Disney made sure that it's "upscale" stores and restaurants are geared toward the families that visist the area, thus their immediate and continuous success. It didnt' take Downtown Disney 2 years to become popular. It was instantaneous.

And for those who think that GardenWalk is going to be a route between any sort of Disney owned parking lot and a third gate, HA! Unless Disney itself buys Garden Walk you can bet that they will do whatever it takes to make sure that no tourist dollar is spent anywhere but on Disney Property. This will include making sure that trams, peoplemovers, walkways etc do not pass anywhere near an outside vendor that doesn't give Disney a cut of their proffit.

Actually the plans i have seen have the transportation system stopping at the AGW. Disney is not trying to make this place fail there is a reason why they agreed and and gave their blessing for the construction of the mall. For years they were against it because Disney wanted that property to become the transportation hub of the resort. That large property was destined to be the main parking structure since it had direct access to the 5 fwy. After some changes were made and plans decided for AGW Disney saw the potential of having the mall built there. It is important that the mall succeed because they see that as another step in turining the area into a higher class resort district. They actually are trying everything possible to make sure that the area will never be another US 192. Disney has been a huge advocate in refreshing some of those old motel or having them close or rebuilt.

Re: Anaheim GardenWalk Progress Thread

The two to three hotels are planned to be located on the east side of the property along Clementine. The space above the structure is for timeshares.

The GardenWalk interests me because Disney may want to buy it out and save the place, using it as a major pedestrian route to the third gate.

Baloo is right, if you look at the original WestCot plans, the GardenWalk was going to be a huge Disney parking structure.

Well, we will have to see what happens.

Re: Anaheim GardenWalk Progress Thread

One Hotel (Actually a Time Share) is planned to be built on top of the current AGW parking structure on the West end of AGW.

The East end current plan is to have two Disney Operated Hotels, one on each side of the current Fire Station.

As for shuttles, I think 10 out of the 14 ART shuttles that service the Disneyland Resort (Lion King Tram area) stop at the Anaheim GardenWalk, as the service is operated by the city, and they want as many folks as possible to go to AGW.

And once again, the cost to RENT a LANE at 300 Anaheim is $30 (Sometimes less), but that is NOT per game, that is ONE HOUR of time, so a group of 4 could get 1 game each easily, or JUST $7.50 per game, maybe even a bit less if they move quickly!

thanks for the info about the bowling price. That actually sounds like a reasonable rate.

Re: Anaheim GardenWalk Progress Thread

NEWS UPDATE:

Openings:
-New:
--August 24 - Sbarro is now open.
-Upcoming:
--August 28 - Bar Louie Tavern & Grill
--August 30 - Fuzziwig's Candy Factory
--August 30 - Hawaiian Barbecue
--August 30 - La Salsa

And to make it official, the space above the parking structure will be used for timeshares while the hotels will be built on the east side of the GardenWalk along Clementine. There is likely to be two hotels; however, there is a possibility of three. Hotel construction looks to begin in January of 2009. The hotels, as well as the timeshares, will possibly be owned by Disney. Any plans between Disney and the GardenWalk will be announced in mid-October. These plans also include the possibility of Disney buying out the whole Anaheim GardenWalk complex.

Remember, if you want to look at concept art of the hotels or overhead maps of the GardenWalk, check out the Galleries on the first page of the thread.

I'll be back with more info. From the looks of thing, there may be a huge number of opening on August 30; however, it is likely that they get pushed back.
See ya.

I'm sure all those tired tourists after having walked around Disneyland really appreciate that extra stop at a mall before they head to the hotel so their tired bodies can rest, especially since there is nothing at that mall for their kids to do.

Darkbeer was just making a point; no need to bash on ART.

Re: Anaheim GardenWalk Progress Thread

FYI, Anaheim GardenWalk is hosting free concerts in September, Saturdays from 4 to 7 PM...

Sept. 6th -- LA All Stars
Sept. 13th - Louie Cruz Beltran
Spet. 20th - Billy Vera & The Beatles
Sept. 27th - The Chantays

San Sai is still not open, and looks a few weeks away based on looking inside through the covered windows (a small gap was available).

Sbarro is looking close to opening, they had their Signage and Menu up a couple of days ago.
