Re: Mass Transit 2 the Disneyland Resort

I've come to realize people are no longer that competent or visionary.

It'll be all jacked up with two train stations both a little too far to walk with luggage - in Burbank heat. And you'll need shuttle buses to get between stations. If we're LUCKY the HSR station and Antelope Valley Metrolink will have adjacent platforms.

101 FREEWAY CAP (PARK TO BE BUILT ON TOP):

The city is making some attempts at improving the pedestrian connections between Union Station and the Civic Center, but nothing would bridge that gap like the proposed Park 101, which would cap portions of the Hollywood Freeway in Downtown with a giant awesome park. The City Council took a big step toward making Park 101 a reality on Friday when they unanimously voting to partner with a nonprofit group to seek funding for the venture, CBS LA reports. The city will join hands with Friends of Park 101 to try to raise private, federal, and state money for the park. As it's currently envisioned, Park 101 would connect the Civic Center with Olvera Street, Chinatown, and Union Station; it would likely open in five phases, the first would be a small segment near Olvera Street and the last would be near the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

I would love a train to Vegas. I hate that drive, and flying can work, if you can stand to deal with TSA and live conveniently near an airport. But I'd absolutely take a train.

But how will we get to Victorville?

Where there is a will, there will be a way.
    Buses.
    Shuttles.
    Private cars.
    Your own car.
Get dropped off by a friend.
Train across the Antelope Valley to Palmdale. There is already a track from Palmdale to the southern end of Victorville, so the right-of-way already exists. So, when The 18 crosses over the track at about 263rd Street, the HSR heads due east along The 18 (Palmdale Road) straight into V-Ville.

If you think a train from San Francisco to LA has problems, a route from Victorville to Las Vegas would have MINIMAL ridership.

Yeah, Victorville as a terminus is not all that bright. Nobody goes there. I suspect there would be feeder lines from real places meeting the train from Victorville, if they have any brains at all.

(If I retire to Southern California so I can spend the rest of my life as a little old lady with an AP who takes the PeopleMover to Disneyland every few days to bask in the magic, I will count on you guys to have it the transportation system in place when I get there.)

    Comment section is pretty interesting.

So, cut the projected cost by 90% and HSR would be a great option.

I am against the HSR because of the spiralling cost and it bugs me that I agree with Republicans on this or anything!

How about we build a Hyperloop to Vegas and show how the LA-SF route would work? The distances are about the same and Nevada would pay for their section.

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.
