The irony is that we had New Urbanism in southern California back when it was Old Urbanism.

We had the largest electric railway in the world...

... and the Kite-Shaped Track of the Santa Fe Railroad.

Um, where are the railroad tracks in those pictures?? I can't seem to find them.

Ah. On google map, I can see some old tracks that stem from the SB Metrolink/Amtrak station. Very old tracks.

"All-weather tramway to Big Bear Lake"? I'd like to hear more about this. From what I can tell, it could be pretty close to the airport and its flight paths.

Hey, prag, found you cheating on Micechat over on skyscraper. how could you????

Sediment, this map only projects a couple years into the future. I wish I had one that showed everything that's been proposed and has funding to move forward, so we could see what it will look like in 20 years.

I was looking for Railroad tracks in the San Bernardino pictures. It looked like a train station with no rails.

    • The Regional Connector Light Rail connector
    • The Gold Line Foothill Extension

    • The Green Line Extension to the South Bay
    • The Green Line Extension to LAX
    • The Expo Light Rail Line Phase 2
    • The Gold Line Eastside Extension
    • The West Santa Ana Branch Corridor
    • A 405 Corridor project west
    • San Fernando Valley North South rapidways

SBX appears to be like the LA County Orange Line busway.

Yeah, the right of way is part of the Pacific Electric's Redlands Subdivision and the southern part of the Kite-Shaped Track's eastern loop.

sbX is a B.R.T. that is being planned for seven corridors. The difference between them and the L.A. Metro's Orange Line is that they will create transit parkways and complete streets, whereas the Orange Line has an exclusive right of way. B.R.T. can be implemented relatively quickly, though, and it can negotiate steep grades and narrower right of ways by sharing mixed-flow traffic lanes across bridges and through mountain passes.

The light-rail (DEMU) service to and from Redlands will run along the remnants of the Kite-Shaped Track and is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

The all-weather tramway to and from Big Bear Lake is now being studied, and the mode is supposed to be selected by the end of the year.

San Bernardino International Airport, which will be the size of Burbank, is close to completion, and that facility lies about a mile East of the multimodal terminal. SanBAG owns a former rail right-of-way that leads to the refurbished domestic terminal.

I read this and got an impression:

A lot of people confuse Metro Rail (local light rail/subway) with the Metrolink trains that go from city to city and are operated on the Amtrak lines.

Very cool!!! Let us know when things are operational, I'd like to take a Metrolink out there to see it.
