Meetings Start for Gold Line to Montclair, But What About Ontario Airport? - Gold Line, Foothill Extension - Curbed LA

I like the Cucamonga Creek Channel Idea.
I'm not sure about that jut northeastward in blue on that map, though. Who up there wants the Gold Line to go there? Or, who DOESN'T want the 8th street route to keep going straight east to the Creek?
Also, they have Metrolink's Right of Way just north of 8th street. Piggyback that ROW, and done.
What Montclair, Upland, Ontario, and Ontario Airport need to do is to create an efficient system of getting to each others transit centers. Or, failing that, try to build one for the whole area and push trains, buses, and light rail to it. I like the former more, since more is already built. But if the latter is chosen, there is a big empty lot just north of where the Ontario Convention Center is, north of The 10 and the airport on Vineyard Street (former site of Ontario Speedway??). All current transit centers can feed this one spot with lots of parking, End of Gold Line, dedicated loop train to and from airport, etc.
Then, they should extend the runways all the way to The 15.

I compare Google Maps to that map in your link. I also try to find rights of way and utlra-wide streets.
I've never been there, either.

A caravan of Japanese politicians and transportation officials rolled into LA on Friday for a seminar related to the proposed California high-speed rail link, notes the pro high-speed rail California High-Speed Rail blog. Part of the group was Japanese Ambassador to the U.S. Ichiro Fujisaki, who is quite the proponent of the contentious $43 billion project. "The ambassador stated that he believes Japan will pay for up to half of the cost of the California’s HSR," reports the CHSR blog. Well, more like loan. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation, a state-owned operation, has already been authorized to help finance American train projects. The Chairman of Japan’s Council for Global Promotion of Railways said at the presentation that the bank's loan terms would be "long" to ease repayment. China has previously expressed interest helping build the high-speed system, and countries like Germany, South Korea, Spain, France and Italy have also approached the High-Speed Rail Authority, according to an older New York Times story.

Caltrain rail-tunnel project runs short of needed funds

To keep the terminal project moving, the Transbay Joint Authority board has decided to build the transit hub first and bring Caltrain downtown later.

The dilapidated bus station is scheduled to begin its transformation in 2008 into a transit jewel surrounded by 3,400 new homes, office and retail space, parks and open space and a 1,000-foot tower, the tallest in the Bay Area.

"The choice is obvious," said Randy Rentschler, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. "They build the terminal and prepare for Caltrain."

The other alternative is building the expensive Caltrain tunnel at the expense of the whole terminal, Rentschler said.

Mass Transit Agencies Consider Selling Naming Rights to Stations [SmartPlanet]

There’s already a subway stop in Brooklyn named after Barclay’s Bank and Philly has an AT&T stop on its subway system (that brought in $3 million). Chicago and Miami are also trying to rake in some dough by selling naming rights, with the Florida city charging up to $40,000 for corporate sponsorship of each of their Downtown skyway stations. "Some observers worry that rebranding transit stops may put the systems out of touch with the communities they serve, and even cause confusion among riders," reads the SmartPlanet piece. But money talks. Metro tells us they are considering naming rights for their stations--a report on the matter will be presented at a March board meeting.

I know we could use the cash but it sounds very confusing to have an AT&T stop on the subway.
