Thumbs up Canadian Airline Westjet to Fly Into John Wayne Starting in May

John Wayne Airport (SNA) - Airlines & Flights

Just found out that starting in May Canadian airline Westjet will be flying daily between Vancouver and John Wayne and between Calgary and John Wayne starting in June.

This is cool news for those of us Canadians living near these cities as it will give us a better place to fly into versus LAX. Hopefully it will be a success for both the airline and the airport.

Now if only I had known this before I booked my flight for mid May out of Vancouver to LAX. Be to much of a hassle to change now though. But for future trips this will be the way to go for my family.

Hope they do well on the route.

Despite living in Canada, I have yet to take either of the Canadian airlines, YVR is such a pain to get to from Abbotsford, I always just use BLI as my home airport, 40 minutes and I am there, vs 90 minutes or longer sometimes for YVR.

I've found that Westjet is always cheaper than Alaskan so thats why I fly Kelowna>Van/Calgary>LAX but this will cut out the need to go to LAX. Yay for saving $5 a trip on the Disneyland Resort Express!

I'd probably use them more if I were not so close to the border, I am literally 5 minutes from the border, so Bellingham is just closer and fares are generally 1/2 the price then from Vancouver.

But from the interior the border is a bit far to drive too.

I'm 45 minutes away from the border, but I still drive to Seattle for most flights. Even by myself, it's cheaper to fly from Seattle to LA, and that's after I pay for gas & parking in order to do so.

Well, looking into it, I could save a lot of money too flying from Seattle but when the drive is six hours, I have second thoughts.

I live in Langley which is a border town.

When we went to the resort last year we drove down to Seattle, spent the night, caught our Alaskan flight to San Diego (we spent week two of our trip in San Diego) and we drove back up to the resort.

Cost wise by the time we spent the extra time driving down to Seattle, overnight stay in a hotel (only cause we can't trust the border lineup wait times and wanted to make sure we didn't miss our flight) we decided it probably was just easier and more cost effective for us to fly out of YVR and into LAX.

I hope this proves to be a huge success for them so we can fly into OC directly instead of LAX and renting cars to drive over.

Course our next trip to the resort after this upcoming May will probably be in 2014 or perhaps 2015 so who knows how things will stand by then.

There will be extra flights and balanced costs between America and Canada no doubt. :P

Many times out of Bellingham the fares are the same or very close to what they are in Seattle, allow 3-4 hours to drive and cross the border and no need for a hotel, less risk of traffic then driving to YVR...

Parking in Bellingham is dirt cheap too...

Yeah we were only just made aware of this recently when Alaska announced flights to Hawaii from Bellingham. Langley is due north of Bellingham. Would take about an hour to drive from my place to Bellingham Airport. If one were to head down during the week or later in the day on a weekend day and take the Aldergrove / Lynden crossing a border wait would be short for the most part.

We're looking at this option when we do the Aulani Resort in 2 or 3 years.
