Drive time from Anaheim to LAX if on a weekday morning?

I have 2 choices of flight times: 8am or 10:30 am. Wondering which one would make me catch worse rush hour morning traffic. Also, what time do we have to leave Harbor Blvd to get to LAX in time to drop off our car rental, and make the flight? Thanks!

You're going to be stuck in bad traffic whichever way you choose. I'd say leave no later than 5am for the 8am flight or 6am - 7am at the very latest for the 10:30am flight.

If you can I suggest flying out of John Wayne. You'd be able to give yourself an extra hour to an hour and a calf before you would have to leave.

I would opt for the 10:30am over the 8am. Early morning traffic is really bad.

I used to drive from Anaheim to Santa Monica every day. I would advise against leaving at 8AM. You would be stuck in traffic for 2 and a half hours. If you leave at 10:30, the drive will only be about 40-45 minutes. Best of luck!

I know I'm quoting myself here. I meant to say hour and a half. Dang auto correct! Although if you want to give yourself an hour and a calf that's fine with me. Although the airline may have a bit of a problem with you trying to get on board!

if you are driving with someone else, make sure to take advantage of the carpool lanes, if its a high traffic hour i typically take the 5N (carpool lane) to 91W (carpool lane) to the 110N (carpool lane) to the 105W exiting at Avaiation Blvd

it usually only takes us 30-50 mins to get to LAX from the DLR, and we do this anywhere from 8 to 12 times a year

Re: Drive time from Anaheim to LAX if on a weekday morning?

also, i woudl take the 8am flight over the 1030am flight anyday

you should get to the car rental place 2 hours before your flight, so to get at a car rental place at 830am (for the 1030 flight) you'd have to drive during the busiest part of the morning

whereas, if you're dropping off your car at 6am (for the 8am flight) you'd be driving on the freeway at approx 5am, def more managable, esp with carpool lane usage

    Thank you very much elly!
We changed our flight. We'll now be flying out on a Saturday at 6pm. Do any of you have any idea what time we would need to leave Harbor blvd area to get to LAX in time to return the car and check in without stress? Any traffic issues I need to be concerned about on the weekends?

Re: Drive time from Anaheim to LAX if on a weekday morning?

Weekend traffic is not as predictable as weekday. If you bring a netbook/laptop, you can check the freeways at sigalert.com. On the drive, listen to 1070AM or 980AM.

Your 8AM flight would have been ok. Getting there by 6:30 or so means you'd have to leave by 5am. (Downside is getting up that early AND being packed.) A lot less traffic at that time than for the 10:30 flight.

My suggestion: go to one of the beaches near LAX for the afternoon. Leave your hotel at checkout, and drive to Hermosa Beach. That way, you're about 20 minutes from the airport (no freeways at the beach), and you get to stroll along (or rent bikes, or skates, etc.) a great stretch of California.
