    Universal to Disneyland Driving Advice

We are planning to go to Universal on a Thursday in February and then drive to Anaheim sometime in the afternoon. Just wondering what time we should leave to avoid bad traffic. I was thinking that we might leave around 3:30. Would that be a good time to travel? What is the latest you would leave if you wanted to avoid traffic? (We want to be in Anaheim before dinner.) Thanks!

Yes that would be a good time to be back in the car. If it gets past then you might want to make a plan B.

Plan B, Stay in the park to close, wander around CityWalk, eat dinner slowly and leave around 8.

If you leave by Universal City between 11 am to 2:30 pm, it should take you about 45 minutes to travel to Anaheim area. If you are not onto the road until 4 pm, it will take up to 1.5 hours (assuming no major accidents). The best route, IMO, is probably take the 101 to the 60 to the 605 to the 5. Try to avoid both the 10 and the 5 as long as possible.

Additionally, I recommend Sigalert.com - they have real time tracking of SoCal's traffic, and if a route is totally borked you will be able to adjust before you get mired in the mess.

There is only one Thursday left in this February, besides today.

3:30PM on a Friday would be the absolute worst time to go. And anytime between 2PM and 7PM would be about as bad.
I agree with swampy: Stay til close, eat at CityWalk, leave after dinner.

If you're not doing all this tomorrow, check out sigalert starting at about 2PM. If you can save pictures of the traffic every 15 minutes or so, do it. You'll be surprised at how completely trapped you are.
