The 'Boys Are Back In Oxnard For Another Training Camp!

It seems that the Alamodome in San Antonio is being used for something else this summer.

So guess what's back for one last fling on the California coast in Oxnard?

Pro football's biggest soap opera this side of Brett Favre.

Veronica and Steve Martinez made a pact once they were married. If they had a girl, she would be a Dallas Cowboys fan like her mother. If they had a boy, he would be an Oakland Raiders fan like his father.
Sophia Martinez entered the world seven weeks ago, and made the nearly four-hour ride from the Fresno area to receive her official NFL baptism on Friday afternoon.
Dressed in a blue Cowboys jumper and sipping on a warm bottle of milk, the newborn joined 3,799 other fans in welcoming the 'Boys back to town.
After a one-year absence, the Cowboys kicked off another training camp at the River Ridge fields in Oxnard.
"We've got to start her young," Veronica Martinez said while cradling little Sophia. "It's her first trip away from home, and I wanted her to see the Cowboys as soon as possible."
Area Cowboys fans thought the team was gone for good once training camp ended two years ago. But they can literally thank God for a one-year reprieve.
The Cowboys signed a deal to train in the Alamodome in San Antonio through 2011, but the venue is being used for a Church of God convention this year.
Owner praises Oxnard
During a pre-practice ceremony that featured Los Lonely Boys singing the national anthem, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones relayed the praise he showers upon local supporters while traveling around the country.
"I can't tell you how proud I am and the chill I get when I tell them about the reception we get from our fans in Oxnard, California," Jones said. "It's a big deal. A big deal."

PS...While I didn't see her there on Opening Day Friday, I am told that Tony Romo's best gal Jessica was seen shopping in an area mall the night before...which one? The guy told me...that one right off the 101...which narrows it down to about three or four in the area

Aww, sorry Barry, I missed this.

I drove by the training camp on Monday, didn't seem to be too many people there. At least traffic was light.

Overall, they had huge crowds (as many as 5,000 people) for a lot of their practices, the last of which was yesterday.

I thought that this was it...that next year they'd be back in San Antonio, and that would be that.

But in yesterday's paper Jerry Jones said that everybody loved Oxnard so much...and they could get so much work done in the relatively cool weather...that they might split camp between the two places from now on.

The "River Ridge" facility wouldn't be available - a developer owns that and is planning to build houses when the economy gets better.

But there's talk they might be able to use the old Oxnard High School site.
