On a side note, the photo that I use for my public profile pic is a shot of my wife and I in Cooperstown on our trip back there a few years ago. Cooperstown in October is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
Two weeks from right nw I'll probably be back at the hotel, dead tired from a long flight and hustllng to get to the game (Toronto-New York) and wanting to be back there early for the day game Saturday.

Ain't life grand?

And thanks for the words about the Hall. No matter how big or small, I plan to have my jaw drop a few times.

Can't wait for that either.

Question of the day for those who might know...is the subway system safe for tourists?

And do I dare wear Angels gear into the ballpark?

Thanks.

The subway should be fine as long as you're not out too late. If you plan on talking it to the park, there should be plenty of people around, but you might have to stand if the crowds are heavy. I know your legs have been bothering you, so you might want to take that into consideration. Plenty of steps going up and down the subway stations as well. I've never seen an ECV in a station before, so it could be a tough day for you. But I know you'll love Yankee Stadium once you're there. I merely drove by Fenway right before a playoff game the same year that photo was taken and got massive goosebumps. There's something extremely exciting about games in those historic parks. But be careful out there and try not to overdo it.

As for the Angels wear, I think you'll be fine. I'm sure you'll hear some comments. I mean...you'll be in NEW YORK for crying out loud. If you don't mind an evening of "Angels suck!!", I'd say go for it.

LOL! That alone will be worth it. May sure you tell the person you were planning to come in October, but you wanted to see a baseball game.

Great line...that's funny...

It is now early Sunday, August 17...I think now that I'll be leaving late Thursday night 8/28 on a redeye so I'll get in to NYC with a lot more time time to get to the Friday night game.

Picked up a new camera...a Panasonic Lumix I think it's called...a step up from my old Pentax F-330, which died last week anyway. It's got a few bells and whistles, so I've got some time to study them before the Big Apple test.

If I get the chance to do Times Square, I wouldn't mind eating at the ESPN Zone there, to compare and contrast...Maybe I could get there Sunday morning when they do "The Sports Reporters"...hmmmm...

A buddy of mine and I made it to Chicago in 1990 to see the Old Comiskey Park before it was torn down. I havew seen one game at Wrigley Field...in 1987. The lights were in place but wouldn't go on for another year so I figure I still saw the old Wrigley...baseball under the sun.

The Cubs beat Montreal that day 8-3...Andre Dawson hit a homer, and I got to join the crowd in singing Take Me Out To The Ballgame with Harry Caray.

Other venues I've been to outside of Dodger and Angel Stadiums...San Diego - on one visit I saw Orel Hershiser break Drysdale's consecutive scoreless inning record there...The Astrodome in Houston...and a couple of Giants games at then Pac Bell Park.

I saw the Rams tattoo the 49ers once at Candlestick Park in the pre-Bill Walsh era. My only visit to that Godforsaken place.

A co-worker of mine just came back from there, and said that the stations themselves were extremely warm..and I sweat easily as it is...

As far as the "Angels suck" thing goes, I can take it so long as it's good-natured, or at least not physical. I could mention the playoffs in 02 and 05, but the argument usually ends with a point to the 26 championships banner...well, if we win this year it's only 24 more to go.

Maybe I'll take cabs. I've been told that those are more thrilling than anything Disneyland has to offer.

Can't wait to see Wrigley for the first time in about 2 weeks. Unfortunately it's a 7:05pm game so I won't be able to see the "True Wrigley" but at least I'll get to see it.

I'm VERY much looking forward to it.

Re: Start Spreadin' The News...I'm Leaving for Yankee Stadium and Cooperstown!

Wrigley Field has changed a lot over the years. It is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It isn't set apart from the cities houses, like some ballparks are. So, even when there isn't a game, the ballpark seems to be a place for fans to come, and spend some time. Yesterday, on my way to the Air Show, I grabbed a sandwich across the street from the park. There were a lot of people at the park. Some were taking pictures of the New Ernie Banks Statue. Some were at the ticket windows, hoping, to actually get a few tickets for future games. I noticed the sign out front advertising the tours that are given.

I haven't been to a game there in a while, due to the fact that tickets are increasingly hard to obtain. The sight lines aren't the best, but I used to spend most of my Cubs dollars on bleacher seats.

You're in for a real treat. Every baseball fan should go there at least once. Plenty of places for food and "comraderie" around the place too! If you're used to seeing Dodger Stadium's parking lot, though - you're in for culture shock.

If you have some time it is relatively easy to get between the city and Hoboken. The site of Elysian Fields is commemorated with a small plaque, that sits almost literally in the middle of an intersection.

I can see that you've been counting the seconds til I posted here again.

Six days left.

Subway photos are awesome! You NEVER know what you'll see and often see too much of what you "don't" want to see!

Considering that the Angels are almost certain to have a playoff spot confirmed and the Yanks, well, a post season confirmation on their living room couches......well, you know.

Under "normal circumstances", you can wear your Angels gear but be prepared for the snide comments that you'd hear at any stadium where you wear attire not relevant to that days game. That is all. (I always wear Angels gear; no matter what)

We went to Angels/Yankees games in NY last year all decked out and the people weren't mean, just a little rude, mostly under their breaths. Except for the one guy that felt it necessary to get in my face as I walked to the restroom just to tell me that the "Angels Suck".

Our friends just went last month when the Angels were there and had no problem at all with the fans, just pigeon problems. It seems that a certain pigeon decided to poop on her husband; who, consequently, was the only person in their section wearing an Angels jersey (a foreshadow of the end result of that game) and even though the Angels lost pathetically, the fans did not start the "Angels Suck" cheer!

Re: Start Spreadin' The News...I'm Leaving for Yankee Stadium and Cooperstown!

I hope that your trip includes the Yankee Stadium Tour! It's really awesome, although I hear that they are rushing people through every 1/2 hour now. If you are going on that tour, look in to having your name (or greeting) placed up on the Big Screen during the tour.

While waiting in line to enter the tour, people were circulating through the line asking if you'd like to have a message or greeting placed on the big screen. I think it was $10. We had "Happy 25
th Anniversary Mike and Luanne" placed up there.

You can have anything (minus Yankee bashing, of course) put up there. For instance, "Yankee Stadium Welcomes Radio Barry" or "Now batting, Radio Barry". They take you up to the Press Box first and that's when they put up the messages. They roll them over and over so that you can get some great pics of the facade with your greeting up there! Granted, the stadium is empty, but it's still a cool
souvenir (and cheap, too!)
